Forsberg Three-Peats at Chico
Chico, CA (March 30, 2018) …. Auburn’s Andy Forsberg claimed his third win in a row this past Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway. In fact, he is the only driver to win a main event in 2018 at Chico. “Sometimes you just must enjoy the ride, said Forsberg in victory lane. “All three of the wins this season at Chico have felt different. One I was lucky, the other one the track was heavy and fast, but tonight I just felt good. The car and driver where in sync and I knew we were going to win.
Forsberg earned this win. Starting inside of row number four, Forsberg had some fierce competition ahead of him. The magic moment of the race took place on lap four when he went from fourth to the lead. Once he was up front there was no denying Forsberg his 51st career feature triumph at Silver Dollar Speedway. With extra bonus money from Cherry Street Mini Storage the race paid $2,000 to win.
Mason Moore had an exceptional night. After encountering problems in his heat race, Moore had to win the B main event to advance to the big show. Moore started in row five and marched his way up to second. At times he was able to close in on Forsberg late in the event but was never able to give him a serious challenge. Tanner Thorson was fast all night. He won his heat race, started on the front row of the feature event and ultimately finished third. Rico Abreu also started on the front row but after an early race spin, he rebounded to finish seventh.
Ryan Robinson enjoyed a solid night. The youngster finished a career best fourth place finish. Kalib Henry rounded out the top five.
Twenty-nine sprint cars attended the opening night race. Sean Becker earned the quick time award by blistering the speedway and turned a 12.137. Forsberg was second quick. But the lap of the night went to Chelsea Blevins. The teenage sensation was third quick. Her lap time was 12.151.
Andrew Peckham was amazing tonight. He was as good as any IMCA Sport Mod driver that we have seen over the last few years at Chico. Peckham won the main event and made it look easy. At one point he enjoyed a big lead. A late race caution allowed Brian Cooper to restart behind Peckham but never able to close in once the green flag was waived again. Jimmy Ford should be commended for his hard charging driving style. Ford crossed the line in third. Jake Van Tol looks to be a championship contender in 2018 and finished fourth. Youngster Tyler Rodgers rounded out the top five.
Corey Hall thrilled the crowd when he passed Phil Marino on the last lap of the street stock main event. Hall went on to win the event. The crowd was really enthused watching that final lap. Marino finished second but was later disqualified by a track official. That moved Shawn Smith into a second place finish. Clinton Earl finished third. Ken Micheli was the early leader and ended up fourth. Former track champion Scott Rogers returned to the track and finished fifth.
Earl’s Plumbing Hobby Stocks saw Jeremy Langenderfer get the popular main event win. Brad Ray finished second, but he too failed a post-race inspection and was disqualified. This moved James West into a second-place finish. Hospital veteran Shannon Collins put on a brave face tonight and finished third. Jason Matlock and Colin Ferguson rounded out the top five.
