Explore Butte County Joins Gold Cup Team

(Chico, CA 8-7-18) The Silver Dollar Speedway’s marketing efforts for the 65th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions, September 5-8, has been enhanced with a $10,000 zone marketing grant from Explore Butte County. The grant is being used to expand the marketing efforts to those who would be travelling and staying overnight for participation in this 4-day event. The goal to increase area tourism is shared by Explore Butte County and Silver Dollar Speedway.

Plenty of tickets are still available. Reserved seats are available until the race is held. Currently only four-day packages are available, but individual days soon go on sale. Individual day reserved tickets will go on sale August 15th. Abundant area lodging is still available. The Explore Butte County website has a complete list of local lodging options.

“Though estimates vary� explained Silver Dollar Speedway manager, Dennis Gage, “the economic impact to the area is significant� he continued. Lodging providers, food services, support shopping, repair shops, and supply companies all benefit from the more than 9,000 people who attend Gold Cup activities.

Sandwiched between two historical area events, the Gold Cup Race of Champions, follows the 40th Concours d’Elegance on August 18th and will be followed by the Johnny Apple Seed Days in Paradise in October 6-7. “This is remarkable�, Gage commented, “40 years of Concours, 65 years of Gold Cup, and Johnny Apple Seed beat us all beginning in 1888. That’s 245 years of history in just three local events,� he concluded.

The Concours is held at Butte Creek Country Club, while the Gold Cup will host a Golf Tournament on Friday September 7th at Bidwell Park Golf Course. Details are on the track website along with entry forms for the Golf Tournament.

The Gold Cup features 4 full nights of racing featuring the Civil War Sprints and Hunt Magneto Wingless series on Wednesday followed by the USAC/CRA show on Thursday with the all new 360 Platinum Cup added this year.
