World of Outlaw Star Brad Sweet Brings Back the Mini Gold Cup
Chico, CA (March 7, 2019) …. Since 1987, a short track extravaganza known as the Mini Gold Cup has traditionally kicked off the racing season at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. Through the years, the Mini Gold Cup has fluctuated between being sanctioned by the World of Outlaws NOS® Energy Drink Sprint Car Series or locally led by NARC/King of the West Sprint Car Series.
This year, however, make no doubt about it. Not only is the Mini Gold Cup returning to its World of Outlaw roots, but the race is being led by one of their own. Grass Valley’s Brad Sweet is revitalizing the Mini Gold Cup and promoting the 32nd Mini Gold Cup presented by Riebes NAPA Auto Parts at Silver Dollar Speedway on March 15th. “I remember the popularity of the Mini Gold Cup growing up as a kid in Northern California, said Sweet. “It always symbolized the start of sprint car racing in our area. This year I wanted to get involved and bring back the World of Outlaws for the local fans.
The $10,000-to-win Mini Gold Cup presented by Riebes NAPA Auto Parts will be the first appearance of the 410 sprint cars at Silver Dollar Speedway in 2019. Pit gate is scheduled to open at 2 PM. Front grandstand gate will open at 5 PM. Qualifying for the sprint cars will begin at 6:30 PM. The popular Dwarf Cars are also scheduled on this same night. Fans can reserve their tickets by calling (844) DIRT-TIX or by clicking on the following link https://mpv.tickets.com/?agency=WRG_SNG_MPV&orgId=52711&pid=8655829&utm_source=woosprint&utm_medium=sched&utm_campaign=jantix&fbclid=IwAR27p-94jOTVAcViBFYBPYEHWSHJhhMwcmm9L87QhWJWjBVA0ABKSFYX69c#/event/8655829/seatmap/?selectBuyers=false&minPrice=35&maxPrice=40&quantity=2&sort=price_desc&ada=false&seatSelection=true&onlyCoupon=true
Not only is Sweet bringing back the World of Outlaws, but it is for a good cause. Earlier this year, the World of Outlaws announced this year’s trek through California would be called Outlaws California Fire Relief Tour, where $1 of every ticket sold will be donated directly to the California Fire Foundation. In addition to the money donated from the ticket sales, Outlaws California Fire Relief Tour shirts will be sold with $5 from each purchase also going to the California Fire Foundation. Also, a select number of tickets to each event will be donated to local firemen. “The nearby Camp Fire was so devastating, said Sweet. “I had many friends that lost homes up in Paradise, so we are excited that the World of Outlaws were able to put together this California Fire Relief Tour and donate money into the California Fire Foundation.
Leading the charge onto the racetrack at the Mini Gold Cup is Fargo, North Dakota’s Donny Schatz, driving the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing No. 15. Schatz won his 10th World of Outlaw driving championship in 2018. Schatz is a former 3-time winner of the Mini Gold Cup (2012, 2015, 2016) and just won his first event of 2019 at the Las Vegas Dirt Track. Nipping at his heels will be current World of Outlaw point leader Daryn Pittman of Owasso, Okla. Pittman, driver of the Roth Motorsports No. 83, has won two of the opening four World of Outlaw events in 2019.
Not far behind those two is race promoter of the Mini Gold Cup, Brad Sweet. Currently in the third spot, Sweet will look to get his Napa Auto Parts/ Kasey Kahne Racing No. 49 back into victory lane for the first time in 2019. Lemoore, CA driver Carson Macedo returns to Chico for the first time as the new driver of the Kyle Larson Racing No. 2. Macedo has always ran strong at Chico including a prelim win during a recent Gold Cup in 2014. Macedo lists that win as his most memorable racing moment.
Add San Jose, CA driver Tim Kaeding to your roster of favorites Friday night. Kaeding, driving the No. 7s for Sides Motorsports, is a two-time former Mini Gold Cup Champion. Those wins came in 2005 and 2007. Locally, Sacramento stand out Willie Croft will try and spoil the Outlaws plans to win the Mini Gold Cup. Croft won this race in 2004. Auburn’s Andy Forsberg is now a four-time Silver Dollar Speedway track champion and will look to put the A & A Stepping Stone No. 92 up front come Friday night.
