Golobic Wins 30-lap Feature
Chico, CA (May 10, 2019) …. Fremont’s Shane Golobic won an exciting 30-lap main event Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. Golobic set quick-time, 12.086, finished third in the dash, started seventh in the main event and grabbed the lead on a lap 22 restart to pick up the popular win. A full field of winged 360 sprint cars, 26, provided a great night of racing. Lowell Moural Sr. should also be commended on giving the racers a great track to race on all night.
Lucas Ashe started the feature event on the front row and grabbed the early lead. Ashe was impressive and led the first 22 laps. On lap 22, Golobic passed Ashe for the lead. Yet, Holly Shelton came to a stop and a yellow was needed. This gave the lead back to Ashe. On the next restart, Golobic passed Ashe for the lead again. Five laps later, Ashe and Andy Forsberg made contact going into turn one. Ashe got sideways, was bumped by another car and then flipped over. It was a disappointing finish to what had been a career best run at Silver Dollar Speedway. Kalib Henry had a strong run tonight cut short when he came to a stop on lap 17.
Justyn Cox, still yearning for that first win in Chico, moved into the second spot with five laps to go. He gave Golobic a run for his money but couldn’t pass him. Cox would finish second. Sean Becker has a strong night and finished third. Forsberg brought the No. 92 home in the fourth spot. Kyle Offill had a great race. He started 13th and finished fifth. Offill continues to make great strides under the tutelage of Jonathan Allard.
Casey McClain was the hard charger tonight. McClain came out of the B main and started 20th. McClain drove up to a sixth-place finish. He should be proud of his effort tonight. Not to be outdone, Chase Majdic went from 17th to 7th. Majdic won the B main event.
Making his first appearance as a driver in 2019, Brad Bumgarner won the eight-lap fast dash tonight. For Bumgarner, it was probably like winning the main event. Speaking of Bumgarner, this is the 48th season of Bumgarner racing. Congrats to that family.
Guy Ahlwardt continued to show people why is one of the best IMCA Sport Mod drivers on the West Coast. Ahlwardt led all 20-laps to get the win. He nearly held a three-second lead over Matt Micheli at the finish line. Rounding out the top three was Andrew Peckham. The Grass Valley masher won the six-lap dash earlier in the night. Jim Waller won the lone heat race. Tyler Rodgers drove up to a fourth-place finish in the main event. Waller finished fifth. Nine competitors entered the nights point race.
Kyle Allen won his third consecutive feature event during the Hobby Stock main event. Allen was untouchable once again. He also wins the dash and his heat race. Travis Moore was the only driver able to keep chase with Allen in the feature, but he was still five car-lengths back at the checkered flag. Shannon Collins continued his greatness and finished third. Jeremiah Creedon finished fourth. Zach Lindgren rounded out the top five.
The Speedway will take the next three weekends off. The next race is scheduled for June 7th.
