Becker Thrills Capacity Crowd at Chico For Win No.64
Chico, CA (July 12, 2019) …. A hefty, overflowing crowd saw Sean Becker win feature event number sixty-three Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway. Becker took the lead around the halfway point of the 30-lap winged 360 sprint car main event. With the win, Becker is now in sole possession of second on the all-time wins list at Chico. Elijah Jones asked Becker about his sixty-third win during the victory lane interview and he said, “I know Brent Kaeding is still way ahead of me, but I am hopeful to race until I am 60 and track him down. Becker would need to win 25 more main events to pass BK for the overall all-time lead. Kyle Allen won for the sixth straight time in the Hobby Stocks and Matt Micheli won his second in row feature during the IMCA Sport Mods.
Kyle Offill started the race from the outside of the front row took the lead away from pole sitter Chase Majdic. Two laps later, Majdic would end up on his lid in turn four. Race resumed with Offill doing a great job holding off some of the greats at Silver Dollar Speedway, Sean Becker and Andy Forsberg. The track was narrow and fast. To his credit, Offill was able to hold off the lions until around the half-way point when things got electrifying.
As Offill was trying to pick the correct line in traffic, Becker dove to the inside. As this happened Forsberg went to the outside. For the next two laps, each driver swapped the lead back and forth. It was one of the most brilliant two laps ever completed at the Speedway. In the end, Becker emerged with the lead on lap 18. Forsberg got to second, but a few laps later hard charging Michael Ing moved around Forsberg for second. A late race red flag was needed with Alec Justeson and Kaleb Henry got together. Henry ended up on his lid. Becker led with ease the final two laps. Ing crossed the line in second but was later penalized for not going to the scales. This moved Forsberg up to second, Offill third and Angelo Cornett fourth after the penalty was given. Blake Carrick rebounded to a fifth-place finish after an earlier spin. Offill will leave as the point leader with three more nights to go.
Kyle Allen started eighth but got to the lead on lap seven and then dominated the remaining 13-laps to win his sixth consecutive Hobby Stock feature at Silver Dollar Speedway. Robert Warf should be commended for leading the first few laps. It was Warf’s first time at the top spot during his Chico career. James West finished second to Allen. West won the trophy dash earlier in the night. Shannon Collins had raced into second, but smoke began to emerge from his car. The officials decided it was too much smoke and Collins was issued the black flag. Zach Lindgren moved into second at one point, but then slid off the track and back to a fourth-place finish. Warf finished third. Mel Byers rounded out the top five.
Matt Micheli dominated the 20-lap IMCA Sport Mod feature. At one point he held over a half-lap lead over Andrew Peckham. Unfortunately, only six cars showed up tonight. Scott Savell ran strong all night and finished third. In fact, Savell won his first heat race of the season tonight. Jason Ferguson completed 19 laps and finished fourth. Phillip Shelby had a mechanical issue and only completed six laps.
