Christmas in September at 66th Gold Cup
(Chico, CA 7/26/18) For 65 years the Gold Cup Race or Champions has been the mainstay in Northern California short track Auto Racing, but never has a Christmas theme been part of Gold Cup. In addition to 4 fabulous days of Auto Racing on September 4, 5, 6, and 7th the Gold Cup merry makers led by longtime party organizer Dave Angus have invited some North pole friends to spike the atmosphere and up the fun at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds.
The Gold Cup features 4 full nights of racing featuring the all new Platinum Cup for 360-winged sprint cars on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday and Saturday the barnstorming World of Outlaws hit the ¼ clay oval this year joined by the NorCal Dwarf cars. Details are available at 530-350-7275 or at www.silverdollarspeedway.com.
Angus and his crew have been a key part of Gold Cup for many years and have offered the Thursday night entertainment which has more recently had the Black Light festival along with parades, fun, and mayhem. They also assist with the Gold Cup Chili Feed on Friday, and the JP’s Paint and Body Works BBQ on Saturday.
Many activities for the 66th Gold Cup are planned besides the Black Light party on Thursday, the Clyde Lamar Golf Tournament on Friday, and the world-famous Chili Feed and Miss Gold Cup Bikini contest. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served all four days and the Saturday BBQ is free to ticket holders.
Reserved tickets for all four days are currently available through the track business office at $150. Individual days go on sale August 15. Plenty of seats are available and can even be purchase at the gate on race night. Camping is also plentiful but may only be reserved for the week at $200. Individual nights may be purchased on site for $40 per night with some limitations on RV hookups.
The Gold Cup has long been known for the tradition, family, the experience, and fun. In some cases, the third or fourth generation of a family continues the Gold Cup experience.
Local World of Outlaw driver, Brad Sweet from Grass Valley, is not only vying for the Gold Cup title but has the family multi generation tie to Gold Cup. He is also at the peak of his Outlaw career chasing the National Championship for 2019.
Information is at the track website, www.silverdollarspeedway.com or from the track business office which is open 9 to 4 Monday through Thursday at 530-350-7275. Emails can be addressed to info@silverdollarspeedway.com.
