Golobic Shines at Platinum Cup

Chico, CA (Sept 5, 2019) …. Shane Golobic earned his fifth career victory at Silver Dollar Speedway by winning the 30-lap Thursday night Platinum Cup. Golobic did a great job holding off a late charge from Willie Croft. The Matt Wood Racing/Elk Grove Ford/Nos Energy Drink No. 17w of Golobic’s took over the lead from Colby Copeland on lap 16. Croft was able to get around Copeland on lap 23. Croft brought his No. 29 Holy Smoke BBQ home in the second spot. Copeland led the first 15 laps and should be commended for driving a good race in the No. 5v VSR/Bianchi Farms sprinter. One of the movers and shakers was Justin Sanders who started 11th in the No. 4sa Dale Miller owned car and finished fourth. Kyle Hirst was in the mix all night and finished fifth in the No. 7c C & M Motorsports.
A big turnout of 44 cars returned for the final night of the Platinum Cup. Willie Croft turned the fastest lap in qualifying with a 12.501. Croft was in group A. Kyle Offill turned a 13.125 and was the fastest qualifier in group B.
The 30-lap main event was slowed by a few cautions. Kyle Offill spun out on lap two in turn four. Offill was in the eighth spot. Shane Hopkins spun on lap four in turn four. The following lap saw Ben Worth smack the front stretch wall and break something on the No. 94. Bud Kaeding stopped off turn two on lap seven with a fuel leak. J.J. Hickle was the final caution on lap sixteen when he stopped in turn two.
Visalia driver Ben Worth did a great job to win the 15-lap B feature. He was followed by Chelsea Blevins, J.J. Hickle and Andy Gregg. Those four moved onto the feature event.
The track was plagued by constant gusts of wind that sealed over the track. The track prep team worked on the surface numerous times to try and help. Unfortunately, the feature event was cut 10-laps short because of the tire wear.
John Clark won the 12-lap C main event. He was followed by Kenny Wanderstadt. Also making the B main was third place finisher Hunter Stanley. Unfortunately, Chase Majdic scratched from the B which opened an extra spot in the B main for Stanley.
