Play Day Quickly Approaching
(Chico, CA 2-4-22) ... For the first time in 2022, the sights and sounds of race cars will hit the high banks of Silver Dollar Speedway with the annual Play Day set for Sunday, February 20th. It has been nearly five months since the last time cars circled the famed quarter-mile clay oval speedway. Teams are highly encouraged to attend because this is the only scheduled practice of the season. This is a great opportunity for teams to test and tune their high-powered race cars on this day from noon until dark. All divisions of cars are welcomed to attend and will be placed with fellow competitors in hot lap style sessions. This allows the teams to sharpen up the handling on their car and for drivers to knock off a little rust behind the wheel. Practice is a great chance to reacclimate you and your team with the regular season set to kick off right around the corner.
The pit gate will open at 11am sharp. The cost is $30 per person. Cars will be given the green light at noon to hit the track. SLC Promotions has plans to keep practice on the track open until it gets too dark. Unfortunately, the main grandstands will not be open.
Things will get real on March 4th and 5th with the annual Silver Cup Race of Champions. This year the Speedway in honored to host this race in tribute to former promoter John Padjen. Over 40 of the best 360-winged sprint cars and nearly 30 Dwarf Cars are expected for each night. SLC Promotions has already crafted a new and exciting format and nightly race schedules with timelines to help speed up the shows and offer the best entertainment for our loyal fans in a timely fashion.
The final race of 20221 was held on October 2nd and diehard fans stayed late into the night to witness Kalib Henry winning the Fall Nationals 360-winged sprint car race in Tribute to Stephen Allard. Bill Patterson won the hotly contested Hobby Stock main event. Nearly 100 competitors lined the pit area for that event.
During the offseason, the newly formed SLC Promotions have taken over as the promoters of Silver Dollar Speedway. Led by NASCAR Cup Champion Kyle Larson, the newly formed group also includes three-time World of Outlaw Champion Brad Sweet, and multi-time California sprint car winning driver Colby Copeland. All three California natives have a common goal; making Silver Dollar Speedway a destination again for race teams and fans. Their 2022 schedule includes 15 nights of racing and four Monster Truck shows. The crown jewel of the schedule pivots arounds the Gold Cup Race of Champions in September.
