Mitchell Faccinto Scores Big Payday by Winning the Silver Cup

CHICO, Calif., March 5, 2022 — Mitchell Faccinto led all 35-laps to capture the final night of the Silver Cup John Padjen Classic.  Faccinto pocketed a staggering $5,700 for the triumph. High Sierra Industries added an extra $1500 to the guaranteed $4,000 to win.  Alan Padjen added and extra $1,000 to the purse, giving the top ten an extra $100 each.  Placerville Speedway also pitched in and added $1,000 to the top 10 finishers in the A main, spread out $100 to each.

A staggering 49-winged 360 sprint cars were joined by 26 Dwarf Cars for the second night of the Silver Cup.  After qualifying, the Speedway did a Memorial Lap in honor of John Padjen.  The Padjen family was on site and in the infield. The No. 92 of Andy Forsberg and the No. 01jr Brown Eagle Motorsports driven by Kalib Henry did the honor. The No. 01jr also had a picture of John and Robbie Padjen in the center of the top wing. The Padjen family was then presented with a plaque in honor of John from the Speedway.  The Dwarf Car organization also inducted John Padjen into the Dwarf Car Hall of Fame and presented that plaque to the Padjen family.

Faccinto won the 6-lap dash which earned him the right to start on the pole of the feature event. While Faccinto was the class of the field, the race behind him was spectacular. Chase Majdic battled hard all night to stay in the second spot.  He held off multiple challenges from Justin Sanders and Shane Golobic.  In fifth for most of the race was Kalib Henry. Tanner Carrick was also in the mix and traded spots with Henry multiple times.

The $250 Factory Kahne Hard Charger Product Award went to Chase Johnson who started 22nd and finished 8th.  It was an impressive run for the Johnson and his No. 20 team.

On lap 20, Sanders squeezed around Majdic for the second spot, only to fall back to fourth three laps later.  Sanders regrouped and charged around Golobic on lap 30.  Three laps later, Sanders passed Majdic for second again.  Faccinto was too far ahead at this point, and Sanders ran out of time to make one last charge.  Faccinto won the event in the Tarlton and Son No. 21t.  This combination could be stout this season. Sanders finished second and Majdic hung on for third. Golobic finished fourth.  Henry crossed the line in fifth. Tim Kaeding came across the line in sixth.

Hard charging Chase Johnson won the 12-lap B main. Ryan Robinson finished second.  Justin Henry third.  Sean Becker finished fourth and was the final transfer. Finishing 5th and winning the BBJ $100 award was Casey Schmitz.

Blake Carrick captured the overall fast time award.  Carrick’s lap was a blistering 11.746.  For his effort, he picked up $200 courtesy of Tiner Hirst Ent. And Paul Olmstead Plastering.

Mike Grenert led all 20-laps to capture the Dwarf Car portion of the Silver Cup.  Grenert weas never seriously challenged for the win.  Ryan Winter shadowed Grenert for most of the event. Shawn Whitney started seventh but quickly moved into third. Zach Albers started second but drifted back to fourth early in the race.  He then tried to fend off 11th starting Dylan Shrum.  On lap 12, Shrum was able to pass Albers for the fourth spot.  Danny Wagner and Ben Wiesz each started deep in the field.  Both raced up to sixth and seventh by lap13. Wagner would end up sixth while Wiesz, the previous night’s winner, finished seventh. Grenert held over a half second advantage over Winter at the line. Winter finished second for the second night in a row.

Brian Quilty won the 12-lap B main event. Cody Shrum, Derek Drovoid and Pete Piantanida rounded out the top four and transferred to the A main.
