Burke Doing Double Duty This Weekend With Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Round 8 and Pavement Midget Debut
Inside Line Promotions – ALVIN, Texas (May 25, 2021) – Trey Burke has two unique opportunities ahead of him this weekend.
Burke will invade Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Ind., for Round 8 of the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship on Thursday and Friday. It will mark the only race of the season for the series on an oval.
Additionally, he will make his pavement midget debut on Friday night at the same track. Burke will drive for Joe Dooling Autosports in both races.
Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship qualifying kicks off the weekend on Thursday before the race is Friday evening.
“I’m super excited for it,” Burke said. “I know that a lot of people think we’ll have an advantage because I’m a dirt driver, but this is my first pavement oval race. I’m expecting to do a little better than we have been, but honestly, if we can have a solid top 10 I’ll be more than pleased.”
Burke has made limited laps practicing a pavement midget, but he is optimistic about his first career race with the Champion Midgets during the Carb Night Classic.
“We’ve practiced, but haven’t raced with it,” he said. “I’ve been out with it two days. It’s super fun and completely different from the USF2000 car. The line you have to run is different and you have more horsepower so you can run the track differently.”
Burke noted that he hopes to compete in approximately a half dozen additional pavement midget races throughout the remainder of the season.
