Vanderheiden Battles Challenging Outings at Crawford & Eagle; Sixth at Husets
Cole Vanderheiden embarked on another three-day race weekend on Friday with a trip to Iowa's Crawford County Speedway. With 16 IMCA Race Saver Sprints in action Cole started and finished fifth in his heat race, which locked him into the sixth-starting spot for the feature.
He raced in the Top 5 early in the feature before overheating issues forced him to retire to a 14th-place finish.
The team went through the engine Saturday morning to make sure there were no issues and luckily none were found. Vanderheiden began the day by taking part in the Papillion Days parade before trekking to Eagle (Neb.) Raceway, where 28 drivers registered for battle.
Cole fell short of transferring to the feature from his heat race, which mired him ninth on the starting grid for the B-Main. He fell short of his mark with a seventh-place finish in the B-Main as his night came to an early end.
The team looked to end their weekend on a high note as the rolled into South Dakota's Husets Speedway on Sunday night. Cole hit the ground running in his heat race with a third-to-second run, which positioned him sixth on the starting grid for the night's feature.
Logging laps in the Top 10 throughout the 20-lap affair, Vanderheiden put a wrap on the weekend with a solid sixth-place finish.
