Ian Madsen Tallies Two World of Outlaw Top-Five’s
PETERSEN MEDIA- Friday nigh tin Hanford, CA Ian Madsen flirted with victory. Losing the lead around the halfway point, the St. Marys, NSW pilot would get it back only to lose it again with one lap to go and finish in the second spot, before finishing fifth in Perris, CA on Saturday night.
“I was absolutely crushed on Friday night,” Ian Madsen said. “These Outlaw races are so tough to win, and to come that close..I hate it for everyone involved with this team. We had great speed, though and closed out our trip to California with a nice finish on Saturday night too.”
Following a wild night in Placerville, CA on Wednesday night where he finished 18th, Ian Madsen got off to a shaky start in Hanford, CA on Friday night where he timed in 18th fastest.
Lining up fifth in his heat race, Madsen had a very nice showing in his heat race where he would work the Logan Contractors Supply/Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed No. 18 machine up to finish in the second spot and earn a spot in the Dash.
As fate would have it, the inversion would work in his favor and he would find himself on the front row of the six lap Craftsman Club Dash. Finishing second, Madsen would then be on the front row for the 35-lap A main event alongside fellow countryman, James McFadden.
When the race got underway Madsen would jump out to the early lead on an extremely slick Keller Auto Speedway surface. Running well out front, Madsen would feel pressure for the race lead following an open red flag on the 15th circuit.
Falling back to second on the 18th lap, Madsen would say with Cory Eliason for the next two circuits before he took advantage of the local favorite’s mistake and regained the lead on the 21st lap.
Still tip toeing around the slick speedway with a monster cushion, Madsen looked well on his way to a win before a late restart would put Logan Schuchart and Donny Schatz on his rear bumper.
With the white flag in the air, Schuchart would sneak around Madsen with just one lap to go, and Madsen would go on to finish in the second spot.
Though a tough pill to swallow, Madsen and company would look to build off the momentum as they headed south to battle at Perris Auto Speedway on Saturday night.
Timing in eighth fastest, Madsen would start and finish third in his heat race and move into the 30-lap feature event. Gridding the field from the eight start spot, Madsen would take what he could get on the tricky racing surface and end his California Spring Break trip with a fifth place finish.
“California was tricky for us at times, and good to us at times,” Ian Madsen said. “It is nice to get some really good finishes to close out our tip and build up some momentum for our Midwest season.”
Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Team Kline Electric, Greenland Homes, Team Excavating, TammyHeckart.com, Finer Cuts Lawn and Landscape, Des Moines Area Roofing, Quality Traffic Control, Bergen Paulsen, Coverage Direct, Monarch’s, and Revolution Race Gear for their support this season.
2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-24, Wins-2, Top-5’s- 9, Top 10’s-17
