Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 13, 2019) – Travis Rilat just wrapped up the busiest part of his season.
The BDS Motorsports driver competed in eight races during a nine-day stretch as part of Iowa Speedweek, which incorporated the 29th annual My Place Hotels 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank, the 8th annual Bell Helmets Capitani Classic presented by Great Southern Bank, the 24th annual Sage Fruit Front Row Challenge presented by Musco Lighting, the Sage Fruit Ultimate Challenge presented by Searsboro Telephone Co. and the 59th annual NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Stores spread between Knoxville Raceway and Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa.
“We had a good time,” Rilat said. “We learned a lot out here. We made a lot of decent laps and we had some good time trial efforts, which normally I’m horrible at timing in. We have to work on getting the car good for the feature races.”
Rilat posted a pair of top 20s at Southern Iowa Speedway during both 360ci and 410ci winged sprint car action. He also qualified in the top five in his group during the Capitani Classic and won a heat race during the Knoxville Nationals.
“We’ve been good every time we’ve hit the track out here this year, but just didn’t make it happen as well as we wanted to,” he said. “Jumping into the 410 we didn’t get to run several weeks before. With blowing a motor and rain outs it didn’t go as planned leading to the Nationals. I just don’t run enough with the 410s and I think that hurts me quite a bit. I think I’ve only got about 20 races in all season in sprint cars overall.
“But No. 1, we had a good time. We got to visit with some friends. We also got a lot of laps. The more you race the easier it is to do it just like in golf, tennis, fishing, whatever. The less you do it makes it hard to be consistent at it. To be good at the Nationals you need to get out and run a lot. The more times you can run this track will definitely give you an advantage, too. I’ve got a business and family and other things going on. We just do the best we can.”
In the end Rilat posted his best 360 Knoxville Nationals result since 2011 and his best 410 Knoxville Nationals finish since 2008.
