Lernerville Speedway
The 2016 Lernerville Speedway Pre-Season is finally upon us! An all new Lernerville.com has been launched!
Sarver, PA (March 7, 2016) Its been an abnormally mild winter, and the warm weather makes it seem like the start of the 2016 season should be closer than it really is, but after months of planning and preparations, the Lernerville Pre-Season is finally upon us! As always, the pre-season begins with the Annual Awards Banquet, continues with car shows at the Clearview Mall and Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills and concludes on the track with the Test & Tune Practice Session which leads directly to Opening Night 2016 on Friday, April 15.
The Annual Awards Banquet, scheduled for Saturday, March 12, always marks the unofficial end of winter by celebrating the accomplishments of the previous season and brings our racing family back together for the first time since the season ending Steel City Stampede in October. Of course, this years banquet also marks the end of the World Racing Group era of Lernerville Speedway as the track is now under the ownership and management of Tomson Scrap Metal and the Tomson family. The Tomson family will be hosting the banquet this year at their prestigious Tables on the Green at Brackenridge Heights Country Club right off Route 28 at Exit 15/Burtner Road. Tickets are no longer available for sale nor will be available for purchase at the door.
This years banquet will once again include the induction of the newest class of Hall of Famers. Headlining this years class is one of the all-time winningest drivers and pilot of arguably the most iconic racecar in the almost 50 year history of the speedway in Lynn Geisler, longtime driver of the #1 Cochran Late Model. Geisler has only run a handful of races in recent seasons, but continues his relationship with #1 Cochran as car owner for Mike Pegher Jr. Geisler is joined by Carl Murdick whose been racing at the track since it opened in 1968 and has missed less than five races at the speedway during his career. Murdick turned his final laps last season and will attempt to retire; something easier said than done for any driver! Joining the veteran drivers are a pair of veteran track officials in Greg Wheeling and Carol Gamble. Wheeling has worn many hats at many tracks over the years and is the current Race Director at Lernerville Speedway. Gamble also played a variety of roles at the speedway over the years, most notably as Public Relations Director for many years. In recent years, Gamble has transitioned to a media position, writing weekly columns for the Butler Eagle.
After the pomp and circumstance of the banquet, the pre-season will roll north to the Clearview Mall in Butler, PA for the first of two car shows on back to back weekends. Cars from all divisions of Fab Four Racing Fueled by Turners Premium Iced Teas will be on display at Clearview Mall from Thursday, March 17 through Saturday, March 19. The following weekend, Thursday, March 24 through Saturday, March 26, cars will once again be on display at the sprawling Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills along Route 28 off Exit 13.
The cars and stars of Fab4 Fueled by Turners will finally return to the Action Track of Saturday, April 9 for our annual Test & Tune Practice Session and Tech Day. Rotating hot laps for all divisions will be a welcome respite from a long off season and provide drivers with the opportunity to shake down their cars in preparation for Opening Night 2016 scheduled for Friday, April 15. Grandstands will once again be open to the public free of charge, but pit passes are required for entry to the pit area. Tech Inspectors will be on hand to inspect cars in advance of opening night and office personnel will be on hand to complete registration paperwork. Most of that paperwork can also be downloaded and/or completed online at www.Lernerville.com. There you can also download, view and print our 2016 schedule which was posted a few weeks ago.
Speaking of our website, Rubus Tomson has been hard at work redesigning a new and improved website, which launched on Monday, March 6. The new website allows for more seamless social media interactions and an expanded online ticketing system. Fans will now be able to purchase tickets online for almost all of our scheduled events for the 2016 season.
