Coming Home- Hawk Named Race Director at Lernerville
Sarver, PA (February 17, 2019) Upon the retirement of former race director Greg Wheeling this off season, the search began for a solution for the open position at Lernerville Speedway. And when the search was over, a familiar face found himself back at home as former race director Mark Hawk was selected to man the headset for the coming 2019 season.
His acceptance of the position brought Hawk's career, a well experienced one at that, full circle for the Sarver, PA native.
"I was born and raised right at Lernerville," Hawk said. "I sat at the table when my mom signed the petition for them to build the place. I started going to races there from 1976 on. Don Martin actually hired me and I worked almost every position there."
Hawk's experience in various capacities at Lernerville spanned over 30 years and it led to jobs at other area facilities including Challenger Raceway, Tri City Speedway and also to regional positions with the former Mid-Atlantic Championship Dirt Late Model Series and the All Star Late Models. He brings a wealth of experience and a great deal of familiarity with drivers from all racing divisions in the area to the position and is looking forward to the re-kindling of relationships and friendships he's made in the sport over the years.
"I'm most looking forward to the camaraderie and the resuming of friendships," Hawk added. "The job is a great job and I thoroughly enjoy doing it. I'm a fair official and have learned from experience and the best way to handle the job is to treat everyone with respect."
The 2019 schedule is action packed with the Fab4 Fueled by Turner's Premium Ice Teas anchoring racing action on Friday nights. The Peoples Gas DIRTcar Sprints, Precise Racing Products DIRTcar Late Models, Diehl Automotive DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds and Millerstown Pic-A-Part DIRTcar/RUSH Pro Stocks take the track for 15 shows this season.
Meanwhile, the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars will make their customary two appearances for the year with the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup taking place on Tuesday, July 23 and the Commonwealth Clash on Saturday, September 28. The World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Models bring the action for the 13th annual Firecracker 100 July 20-22, which will feature the addition of the Bill Emig Memorial, 50-lap, $10,000 to win event for the RUSH Late Models in 2019.
