Sarver, PA (June 3, 2022) Lernerville Speedway welcomed Hantz Locomotive Service as the nights presenting sponsor as the Western PA Sprint Speedweek kicked off their 2022 mini-series at ˜The Action Track. Speedweek racers joined the Peoples Natural Gas Sprints as part of another Fab4 Revved Up with Marburger Farm Dairy show that also included the Precise Racing Products Late Models, Diehl Automotive Big Block Modifieds, and the Millerstown Pic-A-Part Pro Stocks.
The first event of the night was the $3,000 to-win, 30-lap headliner for the PA Speedweek/Peoples Sprints that saw Sye Lynch and Brandon Matus lead the field to the green. Lynch got out to the early lead followed by Matus and third starting Carl Bowser. Lynch controlled the field until a lap 7 caution brought the field back together. When racing resumed it was still Lynch in front with Matus and Bowser in tow, but tenth starting, and current Lernerville point leader, A.J. Flick was on the move and had already found himself in the fourth spot. Flick, trying to make up ground on the race leaders, slipped off the backstretch on lap 12 and slid back to the fifth spot behind Ryan Timms. Flick caught a break just two laps later as the events second caution flew on lap 14 for the fifth-place car of Timms, who spun in turn four, allowing Flick to restart right behind the top three runners. Lynch again controlled the restart, but the caution flew quickly again as the second-place car of Matus spun in turn two which also collected Bob Felmlee who was scored in the fifth spot at the time. After another quick caution on lap 16, Lynch remained up front as Bowser and Flick battled for the runner-up spot. On lap 21, Flick made his way around Bowser for second but not without a little contact that flattened the left rear tire of the former Lernerville Champion Bowser which forced another caution as Bowser stopped in turn four. Lynch again made light work of the restart and looked to be well on his way to the victory until disaster struck on lap 29. As he was taking the white flag, Lynch had a monster run on a lapped car and mistimed his attempt to overtake the lapper and made contact with the slower car which sent him spinning into the front stretch wall and taking him out of contention for the win. Inheriting the lead was Flick who held off 2021 Speedweek champion Ryan Smith, who started 13th, for the remaining two laps to claim the $3,000 victory. Smith came home second with Danny Kuriger finishing third ahead of Denny Peebles in fourth and Darin Gallagher in fifth.
˜Its special you know, A.J. said in Terry Bowser Excavating Victory Lane. ˜The heritage from this (Western PA Sprint Speedweek) is pretty crazy so, to know we were able to come out with a win after Tyler (Beichner) brought it back, huge shoutout to him for everything he and his father did to get this going again, this is special. Flick continued. ˜Attrition is right, I saw Brandon (Matus) break right in front of us going in (turn) one, I know Carl (Bowser) and I hit in the middle of the backstretch, I dont know if I was going up and he was coming down, I know hes probably not happy about it. And then Sye (Lynch), worn place, wrong time or misjudged, I dont know, sometimes its better to be lucky than good any day after the bad luck we had two weeks ago. Im proud to go from tenth to first, Ill take it.
The Precise Late Models were next to take to the speedway for their feature event and it was outside pole sitter Colton Flinner taking the early lead ahead of Matt Lux who started third. After a lap two caution, Lux hounded Flinner for the lead until lap eight as the two battled side-by-side for a solid three laps until Flinner pulled out to a slight advantage using the high side of the track. Flinner maintained about a second lead through lap when he caught lapped traffic and Lux started to gain some ground. Flinner lead dwindled to .653 seconds until Lux jumped the cushion in turn two allowing Flinner to pull away and let Alex Ferree pass for the second spot. Flinner would go on to lead the remaining laps to capture the win with Ferree in second, Lux hanging on for third, with Ken Schaltenbrand in fourth and Jared Miley rounding out the top-five.
After his win, Colton had an interesting interview with Lernerville Announcer Eric Westendorf after a heat race altercation between him and Michael Norris gave the fans mixed emotions as Flinner celebrated his win in victory lane. ˜I just want to thank (Michael) Norris for the giving me the inspiration to run harder in that feature. His mouth was running back there (on the backstretch after contact between the two in their heat race) saying that I cant drive in the slick so, I just wanted to show them Norris that Im the real deal.
Rick Regalski and Jeremiah Shingledecker brought the Diehl Modifieds to the green flag for their main event with Shingledecker leading the way. Shingledecker was carrying a lead of over 2.5 seconds before a caution fell on lap 12 which negated that lead and put the second-place car of Garrett Krummert next to him on the ensuing restart. After another quick caution on lap 13, Shingledecker again led the field as Brian Swartzlander put pressure on Krummert for second. The two ran door-to-door until lap 16 when Krummert was finally able to shake Swartzlander for the spot as Shingledecker went on to claim his first Lernerville win of the 2022 season. In second was Krummert with Swartzlander third, Rex King, Jr. fourth and Brad Rapp fifth.
˜It was a good night to start up front, Shingledecker stated in Terry Bowser Excavating Victory Lane. The track was really nice, its consistent the whole way across it, and its the best Ive been on a surface thats completely smooth for a while.
Fifth starting Chris Schneider took the lead from Joey Zambotti on lap four of the Millerstown Pro Stocks feature and led the rest of the way to take the win followed by point leader Tyler Dietz, Todd Weldon, Joey Zambotti, and Jacob Dietz.
˜We did a lot of work just to make the car run tonight, Schneider mentioned in his victory lane interview. ˜We changed fuel a pump, which wound up leaking, so we had to go back to the old one, changed the carburetor, found a problem with the distributor, so we barely made out to the lineup to get out here for the race, so this has been a real sweat-runner.
