Sarver, PA (July 15, 2022) Mother Nature graced Lernerville Speedway with perfect weather on Friday night while fans were greeted with holiday music when they passed through the gates as ˜The Action Track celebrated ˜Christmas in July on Diehl Automotive Night. The Fab4 Revved Up with Marburger Farm Dairy including the Peoples Natural Gas Sprints, Precise Racing Products Late Models, Diehl Automotive Modifieds and the Hobby Stocks who were substituted for the Millerstown Pic-A-Part Pro Stocks as they were given the night off.
The Diehl Modifieds were the first feature to hit the track as Garrett Krummert and Colton Walters led the field to the green flag with Krummert taking the early lead. By lap three, New York invader Erick Rudolph, had made his way into the third spot from his seventh starting position. Rudolph, who was clearly the fastest car on the track, made his way past Walters for second on lap 11 and set his sights on race leader Krummert, who had a 2.7 second lead on lap 12. As Rudolph began his trek to catch the leader, Rex King, Jr., came to a stop in turn one to bring out the caution on lap 13. On the ensuing restart, Rudolph used the outside line to make his way past Krummert for the lead and pull away from the field to capture his second Lernerville win of the season by 2.1 seconds over Krummert in second. Ninth starting, Dave Murdick finished third with Jeremiah Shingledecker in fourth and Brian Swartzlander rounding out the top-five.
˜Redraws havent been to kind to us lately, we had to start a little further back than we would have liked to, but we passed a handful of cars on the first lap there. Then had a real good battle with the 18 car (Walters), had a real hard time getting around him, Rudolph said in Terry Bowser Excavating Victory Lane. ˜It seemed like, early, the preferred lane was the bottom, but I tried to stick to my guns and wait for guys to make mistakes. Im not sure we would have caught the 29 car (Krummert), he looked pretty good out there but, sometimes races fall your way. We were able to get a timely caution and maybe out-motor him a little bit on the restart.
Danny Kuriger and Brandon Matus led the Peoples Sprints to the green flag in their feature event with Kuriger jumping out to the lead. Kuriger survived four cautions and a red flag to lead all 25-laps to capture his first win of the 2022 season. Darin Gallagher continues to impress and is getting ever-so-close to that elusive first win with a second-place finish ahead of Jack Sodeman, Jr. who finished third and A.J. Flick in fourth from his 18th starting position. Ricky Peterson came home fifth.
˜It was pretty tough, Kuriger said in victory lane. ˜I didnt know where to run, I felt pretty good down in turns one and two up high but in three and four, I felt kind of slow, I didnt know where to go, I was trying to be patient. On the restarts I was just trying to dive in low and slide up so I wouldnt get passed in the corner.
As the Precise Late Models took the green it was outside pole sitter, John Garvin claiming the early lead over Mike Miller and third starting Mat Lux but by lap 3, Lux used the bottom groove in turns three and four to take the lead away from Garvin. By lap 4, Logan Zarin had made his way around Garvin for the second spot and looked to have a car that could contend for the win. However, Lux had pulled away to a 2.5 second lead until a lap 18 caution slowed the pace and bunched the field up for a restart. As the field went back to green, Lux continued to lead but Zarin stayed right with him until lap 20 when he made his move to take the lead. Lux battled back and took the lead back at the line on lap 21. As the duo came out of turn two, Colton Flinner joined the battle and got along side of Zarin for the second position and the two made incidental contact which send Flinner spinning down the backstretch to bring out the caution. This set up a 4-lap dash to the checkers in which Lux and Zarin swapped the lead numerous times before Zarin was able to pull away out of turn two on the final circuit to take home his first career Super Late Model win by .279 seconds over Lux and Flinner who rallied from the tail of the field in the last four laps to finish third. John Garvin finished fourth with Ken Schaltenbrand in fifth.
˜I had to work for that one, an exhausted but ecstatic Zarin said in Terry Bowser Excavating Victory Lane. ˜I apologize to Flinner for getting into him, I didnt know he was there but, a wins a win and Ill take it any day of the week. I dont know, Im at a loss for words right now. I thought I was pretty good on the bottom, but he (Lux) passed me like I was standing still on the top, so I thought, man, I better change it up here so, I hate going up there, but I guess I had to. I was definitely nervous, I didnt think I was going to get it but, here I am. It means everything you know, Logan said as emotions hit him, ˜my mom has been going through a lot and this is her first night back so, I got it for my mom. Im pretty ecstatic right now!
In the Hobby Stocks feature it was seventh starting Frank Magill taking the lead from Gary Koteles on lap two and again on lap 17 to claim the win in the Hobby Stocks first ever visit to Lernerville Speedway. Koteles held on for a second-place finish with Adam Ferree finishing third followed by Tony Magill in fourth and John Hollister in fifth.
˜Ever since I was a little kid, Ive dreamt of being in this position here and honored to be here, an excited Magill said while being interviewed in victory lane. ˜A special thanks to Lernerville for having the Hobby Stocks here tonight, it was a great show. It was fun battling back and forth (with Koteles for the lead), over in turns one and two, the topside is where I was getting grip and on the bottom of three and four, so I was trying to hit my marks and somehow we came out on top.
