Diehl Automotive Big Block Modified Recap
In the 25 lap Diehl Automotive Big Block Modified feature, Chas Wolbert took his second career feature win at The Action Track and did it the hard way. Wolbert had a rough go in his heat race and failed to reach a redraw position which put him in the final row of tonight's starting lineup. Rex King Jr. bolted out to the early lead ahead of front row mate Jeremiah Shingledecker with Brian Swartzlander occupying the third spot. King looked like a man on a mission out front as neither Shingledecker nor Swartzlander were able to shave time off the lead through the first 15 laps. Meanwhile, Wolbert had a fast hot rod underneath him and came forward with authority, putting himself into the top five just past the halfway point.
Cautions and restarts then began to mount over the next six laps, the last of which saw Wolbert make his way around King coming out of turn two to take the lead for good while putting on a defensive clinic to preserve the lead while changing grooves before King Jr. made one final attempt to make a pass coming out of turn four on the final lap which came up just short as Wolbert crossed first under the checkers by .141 seconds. Swartzlander rounded out the podium. For points leader Garrett Krummert, it was a night that saw his points lead evaporate, as a spin in the early going of the main event put him at the tail of the field where he rallied up to the seventh spot by the end of 25 laps. Krummert's finish coupled with King Jr.'s second place finish helped swing the division points lead back to King who now holds a seven point advantage over Krummert with three points nights remaining in the 2023 season.
