Trenca Faces Challenging Luck Throughout Canadian Sprint Car Nationals

Inside Line Promotions – OHSWEKEN, Ontario, Canada (Sept. 19, 2017) – Joe Trenca had high expectations entering the 13th annual Canadian Sprint Car Nationals presented by Arrow Express last weekend at Ohsweken Speedway.
“We were really good in terms of our qualifying time,” he said. “The problem was I was in flight two and it was stacked with great drivers. Flight three’s quick time was 14.4 seconds and I was at 14.2, which was 11th in my group. We were just in a really tough group.”
The Mucci Motorsports driver also had a tough outing during his heat race, which he started eighth.
“We were really good and got up to fifth,” he said. “We had a caution, but they played games on the restart. The guy on the outside of me hopped a tire. His front end was coming toward my car so I had to get out of the throttle. We lost two spots to fall back to seventh. We rebounded and got two spots back and we were all over fourth at the finish line.”
Trenca’s combined point total relegated him to a B Main.
“We led the first four or five laps,” he said. “The track was real choppy and rough getting into turn three. We packed the wheel with mud and we had a real bad vibration. It wasn’t acting right. We pulled in to play it safe.”
Trenca was running third and in a three-way battle for the lead when he pulled off the track because of the ill-handling race car.
His focus has now shifted to a pair of races in his home state this weekend that pay at least $5,000 to win. Trenca will compete on Friday at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, N.Y., and on Saturday at Fonda Speedway in Fonda, N.Y., with the Patriot Sprint Tour and Empire Super Sprints.
“I’m excited to race at Outlaw,” he said. “I don’t think we’ve ran outside the top 10 there ever. We’ve been really good there. And Fonda hasn’t been too bad to us either. It’s all about track position and getting a good starting spot.”
Trenca has five top 10s in five career starts at Outlaw Speedway, including three this season. He placed a career-best eighth at Fonda Speedway earlier this season.
