CHAMPIONS CROWNED AT SKAGIT SPEEDWAY

9/16/23

Alger, WA - On a cold night, the action was hot at Skagit Speedway as we crowned four champions and lit up the night sky with a gigantic fireworks show. Winners on the night were Trey Starks twice, Levi Klatt and Steve Peters. Division champions were Starks, Colton Heath, Klatt and Howard Vos.

The Karmart USA Superstore 410 Sprint Cars closed the show on Saturday night and it was all Starks in the main event, as he led all 30 laps and pocketed $5,000 for his efforts on top of securing the season championship. Jason Solwold ran second and threatened Starks on multiple restarts but could never make the pass. Colby Thornhill was third, on top of setting fast time for the non-scramble lock in cars. Solwold won the scramble.

An hour prior to the 410 feature, Starks and Solwold again ran one - two in a main event, this time in the 360 division. Starks would lead all 30 laps with ease in this one, as Solwold was involved in a slide job fest with eventual track champion Colton Heath for the runner up spot. At the end, it was Starks pocketing $3,000 for the victory while Solwold outdueled Colton in the end for runner up honors. Colby Thornhill also topped the non-scramble cars in time trials, and it was Solwold again winning the scramble.

The closest point battle coming in was the Sportsman Sprint battle where Eric Fisher and Levi Klatt had been close all year long. Fisher set out to the early lead and had a comfortable advantage in leading the first 12 laps before mechanical problems left his car up in smoke and forced him to retire for the rest of the feature. With opportunity knocking, Klatt answered, leading laps 13 through 25 to take the win and title in front of an enthusiastic crowd. Levi Kuntz and Cory Swatzina rounded out the podium. Keira Zylstra was quick time and Klatt won the scramble.

Howard Vos entered the night with a comfortable, but not insurmountable, lead on Brian Michelson in the hornets. Michelson would lead the main with Vos close to him in the early part of the main before Steve Peters made his presence known, driving past Howard and Brian and into the lead on lap 15. Peters would steam roll on to win the feature, while Michelson took second and Vos secured his title with a third place finish. Michelson won the scramble.
