Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 13, 2018) – Mason Daniel will return to Missouri State Fair Speedway this Sunday for an event with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com.
Daniel was victorious with the ASCS Warrior Region during his debut at the historic half-mile oval in Sedalia, Mo., on June 29. The 18-year-old won the second heat race that night and started on the pole of the 25-lap main event. Daniel battled veteran driver Tony Bruce Jr. for the lead before he came out on top.
“This weekend is a bigger race at Sedalia so there will be more cars and even tougher competition than last time,” Daniel said. “We were fast there last time and I really enjoy that track. It’s one of my favorite tracks.”
Daniel was last in action during the 360 Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway earlier this month so he and his team are excited to return to action. They were scheduled to compete last week during the Ultimate ASCS Challenge at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, but trouble with the trailer prevented that trip.
“The car has been ready for a week and we’ll just fine-tune it in the shop this week and be ready to go racing on Sunday,” he noted.
Daniel recently spent the week in Knoxville taking in all of the action from the 58th annual 5-Hour Energy Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Stores. This marked the second time he has attended sprint car racing’s biggest event.
“I had been to the 410 Nationals once before when I was a freshman in high school,” shared Daniel. “I told my dad one day we’ll be here. A few years later we have started racing at Knoxville weekly. It was special to be back there and watch the race. It was amazing how many people were there and how much everyone enjoys it.”
The native of Springville, Calif., used the trip as a learning experience, watching the best sprint car drivers in the world battle night after night. Daniel also was able to glean plenty of knowledge from his mentor, Danny Lasoski.
“You learn a lot from just watching those drivers,” Daniel said. “Watching Brad Sweet run the bottom, that is what Danny has been preaching since we started running at Knoxville. Danny is a great teacher. He’ll point out things and almost predict what is going to happen before it happens. It’s a great experience to sit and watch a race with him.”
