Lebanon, Oregon- For Salem driver Gil Pickett it had been quite some time since he visited victory lane Willamette Speedway. The five-time track champion at the historic 1/3-mile clay oval found his way back piloting the Pickett Custom Cabinets/Jeffrey Masonry #82 Swartz in the Saturday April 20th Season Opener for the Super Sport division. The race marked the first time the class had raced since late 2010.

Pickett would be the only driver to make the high side work and pass cars. A great multi-car battle occurred after a late restart with Pickett getting around Salem’s Chris Mott and Steve Moore of Scio. From there on Pickett would have no difficulties and would cross the line first.

“I got to thank Bob Jeffrey for working so hard,” commented Pickett in victory lane, “also Norm Davis gave us some great set up help so I got to thank him.”

Dennis Archer of Tangent would finish the evening in second in his Archer Floor Covering #39 Swartz mount followed by Salem’s Chris Mott in his Woodworking Enterprises/Airport Steel #16 Rayburn. James Slover of Lebanon would place for in his #77S entry and completing the top five would be Randy Barley’s Dennis Automotive #13B Rayburn machine from Albany in fifth. Archer would win the heat race while Gil Pickett was the winner in trophy dash action.

Super Sports will be back in action at Willamette Speedway Saturday April 27th. Other classifications that will be racing are DIRTcar Super Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Sportsman, and Street Stocks. For more information log on to www.trophymotorsports.com.
