Despite some showers earlier in the day Willamette Speedway was able to complete the entire racing program on Saturday August 30th. This would be the opening leg of the Valley Agricultural Harvest Spectacular and some extra money was put up for grabs courtesy of Crocker’s Cars. Classes in action included the X-Factor Race Cars Super Late Models, Crocker’s Cars Super Sports, Albany & Eastern Railroad Sportsman, and Street Stocks.
The X-Factor Race Cars Super Late Models main event would be a caution filled affair. But despite some of the carnage some great racing would take place on the historical 1/3-mile clay oval. John Duty of Happy Valley was the early leader in his Don Frank Flooring/Mid Ohio Graphics/Metro Services/Darren and Mardell Williams #5 Rocket. A good battle would ensue between Duty and Portland’s Brian Cronk for the top spot.
Cronk, chauffeuring the Metro Services/Dog Lover’s Gold Dog Food/Big Sky Landscaping #29 Rocket, would eventually secure the lead and blaze the trail for much of the race but in the closing circuits the battle for the top place position was renewed. Operating on the top of the track John Duty had tracked down Cronk, who preferred the low line. Duty would make the pass for the lead with just a handful of laps remaining and went on to win his second feature win of 2014.
In the Crocker’s Cars Super Sports the James Gang Pizza/Lebanon Auto Body/Rainbow Rentals/Schram Brothers Excavating #13 MasterSbilt of Albany's Bricen James was the mount to beat. James got control of the lead in the early goings and pulled away from the rest of the field to visit victory lane for the seventh occasion in the Crocker’s Cars Super Sports ranks.
Lebanon native Clyde Rood was quite quick in the Albany & Eastern Railroad Sportsman division. Rood, driving for car owner Glen Hackney and the Hackney Racing/Wirth Wireless #0 Swartz team, appeared to have the race won but lapped traffic would come into play with just two laps to go. Making some clutch moves in traffic James Slover, also from Lebanon, would put his Bubba Gump Shrimp Company #25 Shaw in front and earn his first victory of the campaign.
Last but not least Bricen James of Albany would put on a clinic in the Street Stock ranks. James, like in the Super Sport feature, would get the lead early in the race and pulled away from the competition. James would lap every car on the track except second and third place as he would put his James Gang Pizza/Lebanon Auto Body/Rainbow Rentals/Schram Brothers Excavating #13 Monte Carlo in the winner’s circle for the third time with the Street Stocks.
