With the World Of Outlaw Sprint Car Series on tap at Willamette Speedway on Tuesday September 2nd fans were also treated to a thriller of a X-Factor Race Cars Super Late Model main event as the division would be the support class for the evening. Twenty-five entries would sign in on the registration sheets.

The Quadell Industries/Norway Industries/L-N-L Lumber Company/Kenware Chevrolet #77L Rocket of Preston Luckman from Coos Bay was the early race leader. Luckman would lose the top spot shortly after a restart on lap three to Happy Valley’s Justin Duty. Duty, in his Don Frank Flooring/Mid Ohio ... Ohio Graphics/Metro Services #15 Rocket, would get passed by Luckman the following the lap and the two would duke it out before Justin Duty secured the lead on lap five.

Just as Duty had secured the lead a caution would come out stacking the field up right behind him. John Duty, Justin’s father, would make a daredevil move on the outside on the restart to put his Don Frank Flooring/Mid Ohio Graphics/Metro Services/Darren and Mardell Williams #5 Rocket in front.

John Duty would blaze the trail for several laps before Portland’s Joey Tanner made the bottom work to cut into Duty’s lead. Tanner, chauffeuring the X-Factor Race Cars/All-In Property Investments #111 X-Factor, obtained the lead on lap eighteen and stretched it out in lapped traffic. But a caution on lap nineteen would take away his large lead and allow the field to restart right behind him.

On the restart John Duty was able to get around Tanner to reclaim position. In the final ten laps John Duty would have to hold off an impressively quick Rob Mayea who had come from the back after suffering a flat tire on lap five. It would be the third win of the season for John Duty and his second win in his last three starts.

Bend’s Rob Mayea was a respectable second piloting the J&S Farms/Cornett Racing Engines/Tim Logan Racing #37 Rocket followed by Justin Duty in third. Joey Tanner ended the night fourth and the Discount Race Car Parts/Frisbie Motorsports/Bessette Racing/Gordy Lee Photography #SW MasterSbilt of Corbett native Collen Winebarger rounded up the to five with his fourth place finish. Salem’s Brady Sell won the consolation feature in his Left Coast Motorsports/South Pacific Auto Sales and Service Center/Bilstein Shocks by Left Coast #4 Swartz.

A friendly reminder that there will be no events on Saturday September 6th so the next event at Willamette, after the Outlaw show of course, is the Friday September 12th Kart race. The 1/3-mile caly oval will be back in action on Saturday the 13th for St. Jude’s Night At The Races. For more information log on to www.trophymotorsports.com.
