Lebanon, Oregon- The eighth and final night of the 2018 Wild West Modified Shootout would be held at Willamette Speedway on Saturday, June 30th. It would be the second consecutive night of racing at the famed 1/3-mile clay oval. Forty-two entries from the states of Oregon, Washington, California, and Nevada as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia would occupy the pits.

With a twenty-four-car field starting three-wide Albany’s Bricen James would take control of the lead on the opening lap. James would pull away from the rest of the field and had firm control of the position. The leader would have no issues in lapped traffic despite having to go three abreast with the tail end of the field.

However, the one and only caution of the race would take place on lap twenty-three. It would be the one and only time the field bunched back up. Collen Winebarger would put James under pressure and made the move to get around him on the twenty-sixth circuit.

Winebarger, from Corbett, would start to pull away and lead the rest of the distance to win his second feature of the week and the third time he has been victorious with the Wild West Modified Shootout. Collen became the second driver to win more than once with the series in 2018.

Bricen James closed out the week in second followed by third finishing John Campos, of Keizer. The rest of the top five would comprise Vancouver, Washington’s Jerry Schram, in fourth, while Albany chauffeur Dustin Cady crossed the wire in fourth. Merced, California youngster D.J. Shannon, Hines driver Derrick Young, and Stayton’s Grey Ferrando were the three consolation feature winners.

Once the dust had settled John Campos would be declared the 2018 Wild West Modified Shootout champion. He is the first driver to ever win the points title despite not winning a feature during the week. Dustin Cady would be declared the FInishLine Graphics Passmaster award winner. Cady passed the most cars during the course of the week.
