Winebarger Wins $5K Willamette Stock Car Show; James Takes Home 100 Lap Modified Victory

Lebanon, Oregon- Saturday, August 21st was a massive night of racing at Willamette Speedway. The Sunoco IMCA Stock Cars had a fifty-lap contest in which $5,000 went to the winner, and $11,000 of purse money was on the line. The IMCA Modifieds had a 100-Lap affair, with the winner receiving $1500 to the victor. Also on the card were the Late Models, Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern Sport Mods, and Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts.
Fresh off his Wild West Modified Shootout championship, Collen Winebarger held on to get the big payday in the Sunoco IMCA Stock Car feature. It is his second Stock Car win of 2021 in EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region and KMJ Performance Oregon State action. However, it is the first Stock Car win of the season that the Corbett native has won at Willamette.
A close but respectable second was Eagle Creek’s Donald Schott, with third going to Jerry Schram of Vancouver, Washington. The rest of the top five consisted of Portland pilot Sean Cronk and Brad Gentry from Dayton.
Bricen James of Albany tamed the IMCA Modified field in the 100-Lap main event. James now has recorded two wins at the Lebanon track and five in KMJ Performance Oregon State and Shaw Race Cars Western Region competition.
Overall he has picked up six trophies to his credit.
Stayton’s Grey Ferrando and John Campos, from Keizer, were second and third in the finishing order. La Pine traveler Dan Philpott wound up fourth while scoring fifth, was Collen Winebarger, pulling double duty.
Jimmy Whisler took care of business in the Late Model division. The Otis driver earned his first Willamette win of the season. B.J. Donofrio, from Salem, was second, followed by Scio’s Steve Moore, in the Jody Tanner owned machine, in third. Bryan Norton, from Jefferson, hit the line fourth while Lebanon native James Slover ended the night fifth.
Roseburg’s Doug Coffman scored a massive victory in the Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern Sport Mods. It is Coffman’s first win in both Willamette and KMJ Performance Oregon State action. Cottage Grove racer Justin Ryker was the runner-up, while third place at the checkers was Tanner Krohling, from La Center, Washington. Salem teenager Trevor Points and Eugene veteran Greg Schellhorn were fourth and fifth.
Lastly, the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts had a delightful race. Opie Donaldson, from Dexter and in the Jack Vicari-owned mount, parked it in victory lane. Brad Martin of Dexter and Oakland’s Bruce Miller were second and third. Rex Eckley Jr., also from Dexter, put in a fourth-place finish over Lebanon’s Dalton Bloom in fifth.
Willamette Speedway returns to racing action on Saturday, August 28th. Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Super Sports, Sportsman, Street Stocks, and Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts will all be on the card.
