Mallett Garners Fourth USCS Series Victory of the Season

Inside Line Promotions – COCHRAN, Ga. (June 26, 2018) – Jordon Mallett scored his fourth win of the season in USCS Series competition last Friday at Swainsboro Raceway in Swainsboro, Ga.
The native of Greenbrier, Ark., followed that up with a fourth-place performance the next night at Cochran Motor Speedway. Mallett also extended his lead in the series standings as he chases his second straight title.
Mallett, who placed fourth in the dash and powered from sixth to second in a heat race, started on the pole at Swainsboro Raceway. Outside front row starter Matt Kurtz got the jump at the drop of the green flag, but Mallett took the lead from Kurtz on Lap 18 and pulled away to nearly a half-track lead in the late going of the 25-lapper en route to the win.
“We kept improving on the car from the heat race to the feature and found what it really needed,” Mallett said. “It kept getting better. When I start on the pole, I don’t worry a whole lot about what else is going on. It’s easy to put too much pressure on yourself to not make any mistakes when you are on the pole. I tend to like to take my mind off that and know that everyone is chasing me and as long as I do my job we’ll be okay.”
Mallett has now won at four different tracks this season in four different states. The win at Swainsboro was his first since May 19, which was a span of nine races.
“I do look at how many wins we are stacking up,” he noted. “I want that thing to continue to grow week after week. Every one of them is a good win. It’s as simple as that.”
At Cochran Motor Speedway, Mallett crossed the finish line fourth after starting seventh on a very challenging surface to pass on. The 25-year-old maneuvered to second and challenged for the lead a couple of times only to have caution flags interrupt his progress. Mallett opened the night with a fourth-place finish in a heat race and he was third in the dash.
“We dug ourselves a little hole in the heat race because the track was pretty narrow and there wasn’t any passing,” he shared. “Early on, I found that nobody was trying the top so I moved up and started running around the very, very top. There wasn’t a cushion up there, but I could carry the momentum up there. I know we had the car the car to win and had the whole track to ourselves up top, but never got to lapped traffic or every time I got in a position to capitalize, things just wouldn’t work out. We’ll take it with a grain of salt and move on to the next one.”
Mallett will return to action this Thursday in his home state for a show at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., with the ASCS Mid-South Region. He then has a pair of USCS races on tap over the weekend, beginning on Friday at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, Miss. The reigning USCS champion then heads to North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, Ala., on Saturday.
“West Memphis is probably my favorite track that we go to all year,” he said. “We always have an expectation of winning there. After feeling like we should have won there a few weeks ago having a flat right rear tire, we’ll be amped up to see if we can capitalize Thursday night and park it there on the home straight.”
