Mike Benedum shows speed at East Alabama with Southern Nationals
With a Tuesday night rainout to start the week, Mike Benedum turned his attention to Senoia Raceway (Senoia, Ga.) on Thursday afternoon for the Roscoe Smith Classic with the Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals.
With a strong 47-car field on site, Benedum was unable to transfer in his qualifying group and missed a transfer position by two spots in his heat race. Receiving a provisional starting spot in the 44-lap main event, Mike gained six positions to finish 18th in the Roscoe Smith Classic.
Traveling to East Alabama Motor Speedway (Phenix City, Ala.) on Friday, Mike was fast right out the gate by going fastest in hot laps and qualifying second-quickest in his group. However, just after qualifying a heavy thunderstorm rolled into the area. Officials were forced to postpone the event to August 18th.
Hoping for better luck at Screven Motor Speedway (Sylvania, Ga.) on Saturday, Benedum blew an oil cooler on their primary car which forced Mike to pull out a backup car. Taking a provisional starting spot for the $10,053-to-win feature, Benedum recorded an 19th-place outing.
Sunday's Southern Nationals event at Swainsboro Raceway (Swainsboro, Ga.) was postponed due to heavy rain showers.
Mike is currently fifth in series points.
