Morey, Roberts, Kretzinger win at 2011 Xtreme 100!

Mt. Pleasant, Mich. --- A field of 54 of the Midwest’s best open-wheeled Chuck’s Discount Foods UMP Modifieds, 28 of the best Wilson Steel Fab & Burnrite Stoves UMP Late Models and a nice field of 11 Mt. Pleasant and Clare Automotive Stock Minis made the call Sunday, Aug. 21 for the AllStar Performance Michigan Dirt Cup Modified Tour Xtreme 100 powered by Lane Automotive, Aeroquip and ARP.

With a full field of cars there would be 5 Modified heats, 3 Late Model heats and 1 Stock 4 qualifier race plus 3 Modified semi features and 1 Late Model semi. Getting heat race wins were No. 57 Randy Kretzinger in the Stock 4, No. 19 Cody Bauer, No. 14 Stan Dodds, No. 2k Aaron Morey, No. 49 Brian Ruhlman and No. 73 Rick GoKee Jr. for the Modifieds. Late Model heat wins went to No. 94 Bill Bray, No. 15 Justin McNeill and No. 111 Curt Spalding. No. 65 Todd Sherman – in the top five in national points, No. 43 Mark Anderson and No. 1s John McCall took semi wins for the Mods, while No. 51 Devin Shiels got the Late Model semi win.

The premier class of the night was the UMP Modifieds who were making their 6th of 7 stops as part of the Michigan Dirt Cup Modified Tour and would go 50-laps. Row one of the Modified feature went to No. 117 Kevin Reeve and No. 14 Stan Dodds. The 21-car field took the green flag and Dodds got the early jump. The race stayed caution free until a lap 20 yellow for a spin by GoKee Jr. that nearly got Dodds caught up in. From there the car on the move was No. 2k Aaron Morey who came from 9th starting spot to second by the halfway point. By lap 32 Morey, who made the 2-hour drive from West Olive, Mich., was in the lead and would never look back
getting the $1,500 payday and the victory in his first trip to Mt. Pleasant Speedway. Following Morey across the line were No. 49 Brian Ruhlman of ClarkLake, No. 14 Stan Dodds of Muskegon, No. 2 Travis Stemler of Portland and No. 15 Rich Robinson Jr. of Mt. Pleasant. Coming from 21st and dead last to a seventh place finish was No. 82 Jacob Poel of Spring Lake, Friday night’s winner of the Cans from Race Fans Pre-Xtreme race.

Second in line for their feature were the UMP Late Models going 30-laps and right from the drop of the
green flag No. 9R Curtis Roberts, the “Coleman Comet” would shoot to the lead and become the car to beat. Despite battles from No. X1 Justin Robinson and No. 49 Brian Ruhlman, Roberts would not be denied as he went to victory lane to claim the win and the $1,500 payday. After Roberts the unofficial top five were Ruhlman, Robinson, No. 94 Bill Bray of Bangor and No. 23V Ryan VanderVeen of Six Lakes.

Closing the special Sunday raceday were the Stock Minis going for an extra $100 courtesy of Team Sanity Racing in the 20-lap “Lil’ Bud Shootout” in honor of the late racer Warren “Bud” Lassen. Making his 2011 debut and return to the Mt. Pleasant Speed
way No. 57 Randy Kretzinger of Dimondale would steal the show. A late caution set the stage for a great finish among the top three where No. 62 Steve Keeler Jr. was battling Kretzinger for the lead and the two-made contact, giving enough space for No. 7 Fred Parisian to move into second place. Parisian could not get close enough to challenge Kretzinger who would snag his first win of 2011 over Parisian, Keeler Jr., No. 52 Bob Baltierrez and No. 15 Willis McKenzie.
