Jeremy "Jake" Dickman Memorial Night - Aug 21

Jeremy Dickman loved dirt track racing and more importantly he loved dirt track racing at Mt. Pleasant Speedway.

Growing up in Mt. Pleasant Dickman was a mainstay every Friday night at the speedway as a youngster and his passion for it never diminished, rather it only grew.

As a journalist for The Morning Sun Dickman did a bang-up job of covering the comings and goings at Mt. Pleasant Speedway every week during the summer and he did so for many years. He studied every aspect of racing in his hometown and used this knowledge for the betterment of the sport within the community.

He wrote about the races and racers with the kind of insight of someone in the know all while running the speedway’s website and founding Y4 Motorsports Marketing, an organization that promoted and helped gain sponsorship for drivers and their respective teams. He also worked on getting sponsorship for the Mt. Pleasant Speedway.

Dickman was honored after his death in 2012 at the 29th annual Michigan Motor Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony becoming the fourth recipient of the Dick Beebe Memorial Award (For contributions to motor sports).

Dickman also played a vital role in developing and running the non-profit organization ‘Cans From Race Fans’ which collects thousands of pounds of food for those in need annually.

In brief Dickman was completely passionate about racing on the local level, so much so that he helped foster it and nurture it without asking for much in return.

When he died unexpectedly at the age of 39 in March of 2012 the mid-Michigan area lost one of its most respected and knowledgeable people in terms of local racing.

“I had known Jeremy for 25 years and he had quite the passion for motor sports,” said Mt. Pleasant and Merritt Speedway announcer Leo Pego. “He’s done a lot for racing here. I really miss his leadership because we leaned on each other a lot.”

On Friday night Mt. Pleasant Speedway is hosting a special event in his memory as the 4th Annual Jeremy ‘Jake’ Dickman Memorial Race Night is ready to roar into action.

Cans from Race Fans will also be there collecting non-perishable food item donations. Proceeds will go to the Isabella Community Soup Kitchen.

UMP Modifieds, Pro Stocks, B Mods, Hobby Stocks, 4 Cylinders will be racing.

The Carl McCrumb Memorial Hobby Stock Special has been moved to Friday as well. McCrumb is Dickman's grandfather. The Hobby Stock feature winner will take home 2 trophies. $400 to win/$75 to start.

Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 7:45 p.m.
