Cody McPherson Had Dream Season in 2022
ST. CATHARINES, ON… 2022 will be a season to remember for Cody McPherson. The 30-year-old St. Catharines, Ontario native has been a top runner in the Sportsman division for years and this past season was one for the record books.
Wins at tracks throughout Southern Ontario as well as New York State propelled McPherson into the title chase for the Hoosier Tire Weekly Racing Championships, as well as the Canada West Region and overall Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman.
McPherson won 16 DIRTcar Sportsman sanctioned events in 2022, including 7 wins en route to the 2022 Merrittville Speedway track title. McPherson’s triumphs in weekly competition at Merrittville, as well as Humberstone and Ransomville propelled him to the Hoosier Tire Weekly Championship. Next up was the 2022 Canada West Region title, and McPherson captured that honor as well. The final checkmark needed for McPherson was the DIRTcar Sportsman Series points. Two wins in the six combined races earned him his second overall Mr. DIRT title.
Two big wins for McPherson earned him the overall Mr. DIRT title for the second time in his career. First was the Sportsman Classic at Weedsport and McPherson followed it up with the victory in the Chevy Performance 75 at Super DIRT Week 50. The win at Oswego was impressive, as McPherson led all 75-laps to earn the win.
A bucket-list win for sure for McPherson, but Cody isn’t a stranger to winning the biggest races in the region. A multi-time winner of the All-Canadian Championships and the Pete Cosco Memorial at Humberstone, Cody is also a winner of the Bill Willard Sr Stirling Silver Cup at Merrittville, a race that means a lot to him and his family.
The high-level that McPherson was at in 2022 has not been seen in the DIRTcar Sportsman division in nearly a decade, going back to when Dave Marcuccilli, Rocky Warner, and Brad Rouse were kings of the class. Marcuccilli, Warner, and Rouse have all made the move up to 358 Modifieds, and DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds. Two of McPherson’s wins in 2022 came with the Race of Champions, winning at Ohsweken and Humberstone.
McPherson couldn’t do it without all of his sponsors; Willard Concrete & Trucking, C. McPherson Jr Trucking, Guy McPherson Haulage, Rick’s Delivery, Titan Crane Rentals, Summertyme Spray Foam, PVM Hydraulics, Beaverloch Farms, DVC Contracting, New Generation Engines, DIRT Outlaw Apparel, Hitchman Trailers, V&R Recycling, Niagara Trailers, Brian’s Tire, and Norm. He thanked his family, friends, and fans for their support this season.
