Brian Brown- Seventh Place at Tulare Sets up Stockton!
Brian Brown and the Casey’s General Stores/FVP #21 team ran a strong seventh last Saturday night at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, California with the World of Outlaws. The event became a one-day show when rains washed away Friday’s preliminary. The team has its eyes on this weekend’s FVP Western Spring Shootout in Stockton, California, also with the WoO.
There was quite a bit of rain on Friday night. How was the track on Saturday?
They did a great job. They had a lot of rain. Some promoters would have called it quits, but they worked hard to make sure the pits and the track were as good as it possibly could be. It started a little slimy, but got better as qualifying went on. We were lucky enough to draw a good pill.
You took advantage of that and were second quick in the second group.
I think we were under the old track record, but obviously, Brad (Sweet) was a little better. Charlie Garrett really put a lot of effort into our engines over the winter. It shows with our qualifying. When you can qualify well…especially with the way the Outlaw format is now…it definitely makes your night a lot easier.
That put you on the pole of the second heat.
Taking off on the bottom wasn’t the most ideal spot. Sammy (Swindell) was able to get the lead the first time. That was called back, and Willie Croft was able to get there the second time. We settled for second. I knew when we were starting it was going to be tough to win.
After finishing eighth in the Dash, you started the feature outside row four.
We were able to get up to seventh. We had a double-file restart, and we fell back a couple of spots. A couple cars crashed in front of us and we ended up finishing back in seventh. Overall, at Tulare, a seventh place finish is like a win for us with the luck we’ve had there. It was a good run.
Two nights of racing are up next in Stockton at the FVP Western Spring Shootout.
We’re really looking forward to it. Obviously, FVP is the presenting sponsor, so they’re going to have a lot of employees and customers there. We’re looking forward to getting to see them. We’ll have some hospitality with them, and hopefully, give them something to cheer for on the track too.
