Inside Line Promotions – TULARE, Calif. (Oct. 16, 2024) – Dominic Scelzi was in contention for at least a podium result during both the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series and the Sprint Car Challenge Tour main events last Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway.
Unfortunately, misfortune struck on a late-race restart in the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series feature and midway through the Sprint Car Challenge Tour main event at the Chris & Brian Faria Memorial.
Scelzi qualified ninth quickest and won a heat race before a third-place finish in the dash lined him up on the inside of the second row in the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series main event.
“I felt we did everything right all night long,” he said. “In the 410 feature we had a shot at second place late. We battled inside the top five throughout the race and were up to third on a restart with two laps to go. Unfortunately, a car in front of us had a problem and we got caught up behind him, which allowed several to get by us at the last minute.”
Scelzi finished sixth, which was his 23rd top 10 of the season.
He was fourth quickest in his group in qualifying and won a heat race to open the Sprint Car Challenge Tour program. A runner-up result in the dash lined Scelzi up on the outside of the front row in the main event.
“I felt like we were really, really good and we had a shot,” he said. “We were running second and unfortunately had mechanical problems about halfway through the race so we didn’t get to finish.”
A return to Thunderbowl Raceway is on tap this weekend for the Trophy Cup, which runs Thursday through Saturday.
“It’s a race I love,” Scelzi said. “Last year was my best Trophy Cup. We were really solid all three nights. I’m hoping to avoid any trouble and be fast this weekend.”
