Elma, WA - You couldn't have asked for a better evening for racing as it was Our Community Credit Union Midseason Championship and Fan Appreciation Night featuring the 360 Sprint Cars, Shipwreck Beads Modifieds, Cut Rate Auto Parts Street Stocks, and Outlaw Tuners. A huge crowd was on hand with perfect weather conditions to see some dirt track action on the 3/8 banked clay oval.

Hoquiam's Jack Parshall set the front row of the 20 lap A-Main with Shane Kerrigan of Aberdeen to his outside. Parshall took the early lead, as Shelton's Brenton Schnitzer moved into the second spot. Just as the cars got up to speed, caution would come out for Olympia's Dave Larson. Parshall took the lead on the restart with Kerrigan and Schnitzer running in the second and third position. The first red flag of the feature saw Ocean Shore's Jeff Daniel got into the backstretch wall then violent contact from Tumwater's Kelly Foster. Multiple cars were collected as well. All drivers walked away from the accident uninjured.

Parshall set the field to the restart, and jumped out front. Hoquiam's Jason Tole moved into the third position getting by Schnitzer. Aberdeen's Austin Kerrigan would get by Tole and look to track down his father Shane Kerrigan for the second spot. Spanaway's Nick Bramer brought out the second red flag of the feature after violent contact with the backstretch wall on lap 3. He would walk away from the accident uninjured. Parshall once again took the early lead, as both the father/son Kerrigan team had tough company from Olympia driver Tyson Blood, looking to make it two wins in a row. Austin Kerrigan took the lead from Parshall on lap 4 and pulled away quickly from the field.

Late in the race, Schnitzer moved his way back into the second spot, looking to track down Austin Kerrigan for the lead, Schnitzer looked to the back bumper as both drivers encountered lap traffic. Contact between Kerrigan and a lapped car sent Kerrigan spinning, also collecting Schnitzer. At the end of the 20 lap feature, which ended under caution, Tyson Blood picked up his second win of the year. Spanaway's Tom Hecker, and Austin Kerrigan rounding out the top three. Kerrigan was fast time earlier in the evening.

Shipwreck Beads Modifieds

Cosmopolis driver Tom Sweatman took the early lead in the 25 lap A-Main, but just like most of the main events throughout the evening, the caution flag flew, this time on Lap 1 as Shelton's Jason St. Paul spun in turn four. On the restart Sweatman looked strong, but contact between Seabeck's Kyler Moore and Austin Kerrigan of Aberdeen quickly brought out the caution as Kerrigan slammed the back stretch wall. Sweatman with momentum on the low side of the raceway slowly pulled away from Scott Miller of Shelton. The battle for third saw Shelton's Del Schnitzer, Port Hardy, BC driver Lawrence O'Connor, and Brian Izzi of Olympia battle for position. O'Connor would take over the third spot looking to track down Miller and Sweatman.

Sweatman continued to lead the way as Aberdeen driver Zack Simpson moved into the top three looking to chase down Miller for second. Simpson looked to track down Sweatman finding the high side groove, and looked to the outside a handful of times. Lap 23 saw a caution for Raymond driver Bill Rowe, spinning to a stop in turn two. On the restart Simpson looked to the outside of Sweatman for the lead, but couldn't make the past. Tom Sweatman picked up the Modified A-Main win, Simpson, Miller, O'Connor and Moore rounded out the top five. Earlier in the evening, Simpson picked up a heat race win, with Rainier's Sean Fox winning heat two. Sedro Woolley driver Kevin Smith won the B-Main.

360 Sprint Cars

Reece Goetz of Snohomish looked to capitalize on the front row starting spot and jump to the early lead, but the caution flag flew for Kelso's John Stewart. Goetz on the restart looked strong, pulling to the early lead over Shelton driver Jay Cole. Goetz seemed to be in a whole different zip code, pulling away quickly from Cole with a straight away lead. Lap 4 saw Evan Margeson of Tacoma hit the turn four wall, and spin to a stop. Goetz once again looked strong on the restarts, pulling away quickly, running the low side of the raceway. Chase Goetz of Snohomish looked to reel in Cole for the second spot, but saw himself spin in turn four, bringing out the caution on lap 8. Reece Goetz looking strong all evening would pick up the win. Cole, Chase Goetz, Margeson and Stewart rounded out the top five. Earlier in the evening Chase Goetz picked up fast time.

Outlaw Tuners

Tenino driver Chad Norton took the early lead and quickly jumped out front. Just as the green flag waved, the caution followed for contact between multiple cars, and Aberdeen's Cory Sweatman stopped with major damage in turn one. A handful of opening starts were cautions plagued during the 15 lap main event. A single file restart saw Norton jump out to the lead, with Wishkah's George Lovell running second. Don Briggs Sr of Wishkah quickly looked to the inside of Lovell and took the second position. Norton started to pull away, and quickly encountered lap traffic, that did not play in his favor as contact between a lapped car brought out the caution midway through the main event.

Briggs Sr. would inherit the lead from the incident on the restart with Montesano driver Brittany Diggle on his back bumper. Diggle looked strong, not letting Briggs Sr run away with the lead, but Briggs Sr ran a flawless main event. At the end of the feature Don Briggs Sr picked up the win. Diggle, Jeremy Jones, Josh Wharton, and Max Sanford rounded out the top five.

Racing resumes next Friday and Saturday night, July 29th/30th with the 17th Annual Shipwreck Beads Northwest Modified Nationals featuring the Washington Modified Tour. Also on hand will be the PHRA Dwarf Cars for the Dwarf Car Nationals. Gates open at 5PM with racing starting at 7PM.
