Tulsa Shootout

Shootout Underway with A-Class and Non-Wing Outlaw Heat Races

Bryan Hulbert - Tulsa, Oklahoma (December 28, 2012) With the snow falling around Tulsa throughout the day, a cold and dreary Friday of practice sessions gave way to racing inside the warm Tulsa Expo Center as the 28th running of the Speedway Motors Tulsa Shootout presented by Vacuworx Global opened with 62 races between the Outlaw Non-Wing and “A” Class divisions.

With 986 drivers drawing in prior to Friday’s Heat Races, 401 of those where scheduled to take the Tulsa Expo Raceway for a series of 50 Heat races and a dozen qualifiers.

With the top 72 in passing points advancing into the qualifiers for both the Outlaw Non-Wing and “A” Class, it was the Outlaw Non-Wing division who opened Friday night’s competition with 26 Heat Races followed by the “A” Class with 24.

In the battle of the states, Outlaw Non-Wing was dominated by Oklahoma with 9 Heat Race victories as well as 3 Qualifier wins.

For the “A” Class it was also Oklahoma drivers stepping up the plate with 9 victories in Heat Race competition to go along with 3 Qualifiers. Stand out performances go to Jonathan Beason in the No. 36 and Chris Andrews in the No. 79 in “A” Class who were the only drivers to win from the tail in their Heats.

A stand out performance in the Non-Wing Outlaws was executed by Blake Hahn who despite an injury to his hand on Wednesday was able to sweep his Heat and Qualifying events.

Looking to defend their performance from one year ago, the Faccinto’s came out swinging with Mitchell and Michael each taking Heat Race wins in the “A” Class with Michael sweeping both the Heat and Qualifier. Mitchell would manage a runner up performance in his Qualifier.
