TULSA, Okla. – Sammy Swindell, the all-time leading winner in Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals history with five victories, headlines the entry list for Wednesday’s Hard Rock Casino Qualifying Night at Tulsa Expo Raceway.
Swindell, whose five Chili Bowl wins have come for five different car owners, will look to add a record-extending sixth triumph to his resume in the No. 1 John Christner Trucking Spike/Stanton SR-11 entry.
Two-time Chili Bowl winner Rico Abreu returns to Tulsa in search of his third Golden Driller with Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports, driving his familiar No. 97 SafeLite Auto Glass Bullet/Toyota.
Abreu will be joined by teammate Tom Harris, who takes the reins of the No. 97K Bullet/Toyota from Spencer Bayston this year with the support of J. Davidson Scrap.
Two NASCAR stars will be a part of the proceedings on Wednesday, with J.J. Yeley taking the wheel of the No. 2G Ripper/Fontana machine and Ryan Newman attempting his Chili Bowl debut in the No. 6n Aggressive Hydraulics entry for Clauson-Marshall Racing.
Yeley's Chili Bowl try this week is the 25th of his long open-wheel career.
The NTT IndyCar Series is also represented in Wednesday's program, with Santino Ferrucci making his first Chili Bowl appearance in the No. 18s for Jody Rosenboom, backed by David Byrd of Jonathan Byrd's Racing.
Ferrucci regularly drives for Dale Coyne in Indy car competition.
Other notable names in Wednesday’s 70-car entry pool include 2006 Chili Bowl winner Tim McCreadie, World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series regular David Gravel, reigning USAC Western States Midget Series champion Robert Dalby and winged sprint car young gun Gio Scelzi, who announced an ARCA West driving deal with Bill McAnally Racing on Tuesday.
The top-two finishers from the 25-lap preliminary A-main will be locked into the finale and will also participate in the pole shuffle that will set the first five rows of the starting grid.
