Race of Champions Names Presque Isle Downs & Casino Title Sponsor of Race of Champions Weekend at Lake Erie Speedway September 27-29

The Erie Sports Commission is pleased to announce that Presque Isle Downs & Casino will serve as the title sponsor for the 68th Annual Race of Champions when it returns to Lake Erie Speedway September 27 through September 29. The three-day event is the final event of the Race of Champions’ 2018 asphalt racing calendar. The event is the second-longest consecutive-running auto racing event in North America, second only to the Indianapolis 500.

The event returned to Pennsylvania in September 2017 after a 25-year absence from the Keystone State. Event organizers anticipate 150 top racing teams from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania to take part in the event.

Race of Champions is a sanctioning body presenting modified and stock car racing on asphalt and dirt surfaces throughout the northeast, with events in New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

“We are so proud to announce that Race of Champions Weekend will once again be presented by Presque Isle Downs & Casino,” said Joe Skotnicki, Race of Champions Steward. “We are extremely grateful for their continued commitment to hosting our premier event in Erie. It has brought a great deal of excitement to our event, which we expect will be a tremendous weekend for racing fans in Erie and well beyond.”

“The Race of Champions Weekend was an exciting addition to Erie’s sports calendar in 2017, and we couldn’t be happier to play a part in its continued success,” said Kevin O’Sullivan, Vice President and General Manager of Presque Isle Downs & Casino.

“The Race of Champions is a tremendous fit for Erie, and I’m thrilled that Presque Isle Downs & Casino has chosen to play a major role in its success,” said Mark Jeanneret, Executive Director of the Erie Sports Commission. “We are looking forward to establishing this as a long-standing event on Erie’s calendar.”
