Inside Line Promotions – HAGERSTOWN, Md. (Sept. 25, 2019) – A sixth-place run during the Kevin Gobrecht Classic highlighted a hectic weekend for Trey Starks.

The Gobrecht Motorsports driver kicked off four races in four days on Thursday at BAPS Motor Speedway in York Haven, Pa., where he qualified seventh quickest before placing fourth in a heat race. He capped the night by advancing from 11th to sixth in the feature.

“We had a decent qualifying lap, but weren’t so good in the heat race,” he said. “We slowly moved forward in the feature. We had a good battle for sixth at the end. It was a track where you have to take what it will give you. It was a good night for us because we don’t get to race there very often.”

Starks then joined the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions for three straight nights of competition starting on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa. He qualified 14th quickest overall and seventh in his group. An eighth-place outing in a heat race relegated him to the B Main. Starks claimed the fourth-and-final transfer position, but his A Main was short-lived.

“We qualified okay overall, but not very good in our group,” he said. “We had a tough heat and didn’t make it through there. We had to go through the B Main and we struggled. In the feature we picked up a bad vibration and had to pull off so that ended our night early.”

Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., hosted the Dirt Classic on Saturday. Starks timed in 40th quickest. He advanced from eighth to seventh in the first round of heat races before winning the second heat. Unfortunately, the night ended in the B Main.

“We had some issues going on in qualifying that we hadn’t had before,” he said. “In the first heat race we had an outboard brake caliper break off and wedge itself between the rotor and the wheel so we were just trying to survive. The second round of heats we did okay and won it, but we still weren’t that fast. That put us starting 10th in the B Main and we couldn’t really go anywhere.”

The weekend wrapped up on Sunday at Hagerstown Speedway. Starks qualified 15th quickest overall and fifth in his group to miss the heat race inversion by only one spot. He overcame an eighth-place heat race result by winning the B Main before the night concluded with an 18th-place result in the main event.

“We didn’t qualify terrible, but we were off,” he said. “We didn’t get a good start in our heat so we made some big changes for the B Main. We were really good and the car was fast in open air. In the feature we picked up a few spots, but just couldn’t get rolling.”

Starks is slated to return to action Oct. 4-5 at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., during the National Open with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.
