Amantea Picks Up Pair of Top-10 Finishes in Wingless Micro Sprint Competition

Inside Line Promotions – HAMLIN, Pa. (Sept. 22, 2021) – Joey Amantea scored a pair of top-10 results last weekend behind the wheel of his family owned No. 88j wingless micro sprint car, placing seventh at Linda's Speedway on Friday and sixth at Hamlin Speedway on Saturday.

"It was nice to get out and have some fun and some success," he said. "With the season really winding down we are trying to make as many laps as possible and it makes it better when you can run well, too."

Amantea kicked off the weekend on Friday at Linda's Speedway in Jonestown, Pa., where he advanced three positions in a heat race to finish second. He lined up seventh for the feature and moved as high as third before an incident during a slide job attempt sent him to the rear of the field. He rallied back from 22nd to finish seventh.

"It was a really good day and we had a lot of speed from the moment we unloaded," he said. "I was challenging for second and I guess I hit a rut trying a slider and kind of spun out. We had to go to the rear and we marched right back forward, but I only have myself to blame. I was just going for it."

Amantea originally planned to attend the race at Hamlin Speedway on Saturday as a spectator in support of his sister, but he made the late decision to compete as well. He suffered a DNF in a heat race after starting third, which lined him up 11th for the A Main. Amantea nursed a damaged race car that struggled with handling woes to a sixth-place finish at the completion of the feature. The top-10 run was the 19th of the season for Amantea.

"We didn't plan on running and looking back I don't know if it was the best decision we have made," he said. "We were all right car-wise, but we ended up beating up a lot of equipment out there and while we got a top 10, it probably hurt us more in the long run."

Next up for Amantea will be a wingless micro sprint event at Linda’s Speedway on Friday before he returns to Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars competition at Bridgeport Speedway in Bridgeport, N.J., on Saturday.

Amantea currently sits eighth in the championship standings – only trailing fifth by 90 markers – with only five events remaining on the 2021 series schedule.

"Honestly, we are trying to go win on Saturday as we've really been good there when we've ran there," he said. "I think we've finished fifth and third there already, so we might as well find Victory Lane as we close out the season."
