KOLLROSS IMCA MODIFIED MEMORIAL GOES TO RUSS REINWALD AT THE BURG
(Luxemburg, WI) 6/9/17 Race Report- Russ Reinwald withstood an onslaught of challenges in the final 10 laps to score the win in the IMCA Modified Feature at Luxemburg Speedway. Other feature winners were IMCA Stock Car-John Heinz, IMCA Sport Mod-Wyatt Block Jr., Street Stock-Paul Diefenthaler, Sport Compact-Mitchell Mier. 124 total racers took the green flag. There was a total of 33 Modifieds, 33 Stock Cars, 24 Sport Mods, 22 Street Stocks and 12 Sport Compacts.
Luck of the draw put Russ Reinwald on the pole for the Doc Kollross Memorial 25 lap IMCA Modified headliner. Reinwald raced to an early lead but a caution on lap 6 bunched the field and the race was on when the green flag flew. The first challenger was Tyler Hackett as he ran the extreme highside to pull even with Reinwald. Reinwald switched to the same line, pulling away from Hackett. Then it was Shawn Kilgore’s turn. As Reinwald ran the cushion, Kilgore mounted a charge down low. Pulling even for the lead as laps clicked away. Kilgore kept the pressure on but Reinwald held strong up top, taking the win. Kilgore had to settle for second play pay, Hackett was third, Benji LaCrosse came through a last chance race and started 19th to finish fourth. Brian Mullen completed the top five. When the checker flew you could’ve thrown a blanket over the top five.
Tony Bouche paced the opening laps of the IMCA Stock feature until JJ Heinz made a 3 wide pass for the lead down low. A caution on lap 8 reset the field and the race for the win was on. Barry Van Straten locked onto Heinz rear bumper the remainder of the event but couldn’t find a line by as Heinz as he earned his second feature win in a row. Van Straten was a solid second, Derek Moede was a close third followed by Devin Snellenberger and Travis Van Straten.
Wyatt Block Jr. withstood a late race charge from Vince Engebregsten to score the win and a clean sweep in the IMCA Sport Mod feature. Engebregsten had to settle for the runner-up position, Chris Budzban made a late race charge to place third, last weeks winner Dennis Miesler was fourth and Cody Rass completed the top five.
In Street Stock action it was Paul Diefenthaler scoring his third feature win a row, extending his point lead. Justin Mahlberg took a solid second place, Dan Van Pay was third, fourth went to Dean Anhalt and Jay Jensen took fifth after starting 12th.
Mitchell Mier outlasted Mike Zitzer to score the win in the IMCA Sport Compacts.
