LaCrosse Beats the Heat To Double Down At The ‘Burg

107 cars and stars checked in to battle each other and the rising temperatures on Y100 This Is Country Night at The ‘Burg Speedway. The action on the track was as hot as the mercury read.

Shawn Kilgore took advantage of his pole position starting spot to jump to an early lead in the Village Kitchen IMCA Modified feature. Dave Zeitler, James Tebon, and Jeremy Jacobs fell into 2nd through 4th respectively. Kilgore looked to open a cushion but a caution re-racked the field and saw a hard charging Johnny “The Hitman” Whitman move into 3rd and Benji LaCrosse into 5th. The restart saw Kilgore retain command of the top spot while Russ Reinwald felt heavy pressure in second from Whitman and LaCrosse. LaCrosse was able to put his 54 machine high or low as he worked to 3rd and then around Whitman for 2nd. As laps clicked off LaCrosse ran down Kilgore until they were running nose to tail and was able to wrestle away the race lead and held on to secure his second victory in as many nights at the speedway. Kilgore settled for second after leading much of the race, Whitman came home third, and Reinwald locked down the last of the top four spots.

Tom Brumlic shot to the lead from his outside front row starting spot to pace the early laps of the Quietwoods RV IMCA Stock Car main event. Josh Mroczkowski set his sights on the top spot and worked his way past Brumlic while Hot Rod Snellenberger sliced through the top of the pack into third from his sixth place starting spot. A restart after a quick caution saw Mroczkowski hold the point with Hot Rod working into second and Aaron Stolp to third. As laps wound down the race for 4th was heating up faster than the thermometer. Luke Lemmens and “Handsome” Shawn Havel waged a spirited, side by side, multi lap battle for the final claimable spot. When the checkers flew Mroczkowski picked up the win followed by Snellenberger, Stolp took third, and Lemmens won the brawl for fourth.

The skirmish for the IMCA Northern Sportmod feature began coming out of the Showcase Kitchens turn four and didn’t let up until the checkers flew. Gabe Zellner and Tim Warner set to tussling for the top spot right of the bat as they duked it out from the second and third starting spots. Warner laid initial claim to the point position but Zellner continued to dog him until his brother, Jacob Zellner, decided for an all out, knock down, drag out, Zellner Vs. Zellner grudge match for second. Jacob eventually secured the runner up spot and set to chasing down Warner for the top spot. Gabe Zellner lost the third spot to a hard charging Jayden Schmidt. Jacob Zellner was able to fend off a late race assault from Schmidt to park his 24z machine in the Tri County Heating\Joski Sewer Services victory lane, Schmidt posted a solid second place finish, Warner held on for third, and Gabe Zellner had to settle for a hard fought fourth.

The Unified Dirt Street Stock feature saw plenty of action as the first main event of the evening. Ford Malvitz held the point from his front row starting spot and looked like the car to beat for the early laps of the 20 lap feature. The fight for second took shape behind him as Shanon Guelette, Tony Fletcher, and Justin Jacobsen shuffled the spot back and forth between them. When the dust settled Jacobsen secured the runner up spot and left Guelette to deal with Dave “The Hammer” DeGrave who ran through the pack from ninth into an early top five spot. Jacobsen ran down Malvitz and found the grip to get by. When the checkers flew Jacobsen scored the win, Guelette notched second, DeGrave settled for third, and Malvitz shuffled back to a strong fourth place finish.

The Quietwoods RV Murder Hornet division was the final feature event of the evening but proved to be worth the wait. Matthew Mann led the early laps and looked secure in the top spot until Brett DePrez ran him down and wrestled the lead away. DePrez never looked back as he notched his first feature win of the season at The ‘Burg after scoring a second place finish in the season opener. Mann finished second, Thomas Schulte third, and opening night feature winner, Scott Schlafke, rounded out the top ten.

Thanks to all the race teams and fans that braved the hot temperatures to spend their evening at The ‘Burg Speedway. We are off next week and are returning to action on Sunday, June 20th, for The Gandrud Auto Group Night At The Races!
