Arctic Cat Sprints Return to Macon Speedway

(Macon, IL) Tony Stewart's return to Macon Speedway came with much fanfare and excitement as did the return of the 410 winged sprint cars as part of the Arctic Cat All-Star Circuit of Champions. Making their second of two Illinois stops on the circuit, Stewart raced and looked strong in his heat but drew the last number for the dash which assembled the front rows for the 40-lap feature attraction. Stewart, sole owner of the circuit and co-owner of Macon Speedway, would start in the third row inside position and hung around the top five for the majority of the race and would finish fifth. The story of the race was how Justin Peck was dialed in from the top of the track and won his first Arctic Cat All-Star feature race.

Dennis Wernle hooked up on the bottom side of the Speedway during the first feature of the night and that glided him past Nick Justice for the lead and the win. Justice looked like a lock for feature win but midway through the race, Wernle went to the bottom and passed second place Nick Macklin and then got a gift caution flag and with four laps to go made the pass for the lead on Justice and held on for the checkered flag.

Brian Lynn was able to make good happen from starting sixth on the redraw for the Billingsley Elite Wash Modified feature and was able to use the full 20 laps in the A-Main to win the race. Kaleb Wood had a strong run at the outset and looked to win his first Modified feature of his career but it wasn't to be as he spun out with fewer than ten laps to go. Lynn used the bottom of the track to push away from the competition.

Roben Huffman was in a fight in the Pro Late Model feature as both Tommy Sheppard, Jr. and Myles Moos chasing down the lead. Midway through the race, Huffman didn't finish strong in the fourth turn and it allowed Moos the chance to take the top groove and he rode off with the lead and the win. Sheppard would take second as he passed Huffman, as well.

Next week, Macon Speedway gets back to normal with a full stock car racing program with Pro Late Models, Billingsley Elite Wash Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks, B-Modifieds and Hornets. Plus, it will be Diesel, Biker and Little League Night at the track.
