Recap from Salute to Ag Night - June 30th

Racing action returned to the Murray Speedway on a warm Friday evening. It was “Salute to Ag” night and with that meant free admission into the grandstands. Along with the usual classes, the SWMN Hotrods joined us this week.

S&S Electric MCRA Pickups
First to take the track were the pickups. Dan Jensen led the field to the green flag. On the start, Matt Odom jumped out to the early lead. Jordan Rolling got to second and quickly challenged for the lead. Problems for Jon Joehnck caused him to roll, bringing out the red flag. He got out of the truck and motioned to the fans to show he was okay. On the restart, Rolling took the lead. Jordan Rolling went on to take the win. Matt Odom finished second, TJ Gertsema finished third, and Dan Jensen finished fourth.

Plaid Moose Café IMCA Sport Compact
Next to take the track were the sport compacts. 15 cars made the call for the 12 lap feature. Terry Fedde led the field to the green. On the start, Fedde jumped out to the lead. Following this, there were multiple cautions before another lap could even be completed. When racing resumed, Fedde kept the lead. However, contact up front caused Fedde to roll bringing out the red. He was okay. The leader was now Jason Wynia. On the restart, Jon Schmidt took the race lead. Dylan Schreier got to second and quickly challenged for the lead. Scherier got around Schmidt for the lead, but Schmidt didn’t go away and quickly challenged. Dylan Schreier held on to take the win. Jon Schmidt finished second, Matt Smith finished third, and Tori Groebner finished fourth.

SWMN Hotrods
Next up were the hotrods. 6 cars made the call for the 12 laps. Ryan Schuur led the field to the green. On the start, Schuur jumped out to the lead. However, problems for Schuur made him surrender the lead to Rick Martens. Martens never looked back and went on to take the feature win. Wayne Oftedahl finished second, Mark Oftedahl finished third, and Curt Schuur finished fourth.

Legend Seeds Hobby Stocks
Next up were the hobby stocks. Ben Peterson led the field to the green. On the start, John Ross jumped out to the lead. Adam Snyder got to second and looked to challenge. After an early caution, Ross kept the lead. Trevor Holm made his way to second and began to challenge for the lead. Snyder got around Holm for second, and Probst followed Snyder and began to challenge for second. John Ross held on to take the win. Trevor Holm made a great move and finished second by a nose, Adam Snyder finished third, and Cory Probst finished fourth.

Sturdevant’s Auto Supply Sport Modifieds
Next up were the sport modifieds. 11 cars made the call for the 15 lap feature. Travis Vanden Top led the field to the green. On the start, Vanden Top jumped out to the lead. Tony Rialson quickly made his way to second and began to challenge for the lead. The two drivers were side by side for a majority of the race. Rialson was finally able to clear Vanden Top for the race lead. After a late caution, Rialson kept the lead. Tony Rialson went on to take the win. Cole Bents finished second, Jim Horejsi finished third, and Travis Vanden Top finished fourth.

Car Toyz Stock Cars
Next to take the track were the stock cars. Kevin Debaere led the field to the green. On the start, Jake Bruns jumped out to the early lead. Dustin Larson made his way to second and began to challenge for the lead. Behind them, Dan Mackenthun and Nick Johansen fought for third. Mackenthun secured third and looked to reel in the leaders. Larson and Bruns were door to door for the whole race. The fight would go right to the line. In the end, Dustin Larson was able to edge out Bruns for the win. Jake Bruns finished second, Kevin Debaere finished third, and Dan Mackenthun finished fourth.

RH Sealcoating & Asphalt IMCA Modifieds
18 cars made the call for the 20 lap feature. Thor Anderson led the field to the green. On the start, Anderson jumped out to the lead. Contact resulted in a pile up of cars in turn three which brought out the red. All drivers involved were okay. On the restart, Anderson kept the lead. Josh Bonnstetter made his way to second and looked to challenge. However, Anderson quickly pulled away from the field. Behind him, Clint Hatlestad got to second and looked to reel in the leader. He ran out of time and Thor Anderson went on to win. Clint Hatlestad finished second, Jeremy Smith finished third, and Jeff Larson finished fourth.

There will be no races next week due to it being the mid-season break. Racing action will return to the Murray County Speedway on July 14th with Hall of Fame induction being that night as well.
