Late Models and Modifieds highlight 107 car field at Park Jefferson

The Park Jefferson Speedway hosted Zeitner Trucking night along with the employees and friends of Mid Country Machine this past Saturday night. With all five IMCA classes racing, along with the Super Late Model Series, the pits were overflowing with 107 race cars.

Action was hot on the track with Omaha's Bill Leighton ultimately prevailing over the field of 31 talented late model drivers. Leighton was able to take over the top spot with a power move over Ben Shaller. Leighton was passed by perennial champion Kyle Berck, but the pass was negated by a caution flag. A furious battle between Leighton and Berck ensued which saw Leighton utilizing the heavy track high side to take the win with Berck in second and Rock Rapids, IA Nick Beyenhoff finishing third.

The race of the night, and arguably race of the season, was the Sign Masters Modifieds. No fewer than 5 cars held the lead in the race which ultimately saw Justin Zeitner put himself in a test victory lane. The race started with RJ Merchant taking the point and dominating, only to see locked up front breaks send him pitside after being passed by Jay Noteboom. Noteboom held the lead until Bob Moore powered from his 11th place starting position to the lead. After trading slidejobs with Noteboom, point lead Ricky Stephan managed to grab the lead for a lap only to see Moore power by on the outside. Meanwhile, Zeitner had worked into the top four after starting deep in the field. A wicked slider put Zeitner into the top 3 and Jay Noteboom pitside. Zeitner then dispatched Stephan and staged an unbelievable war with Moore. Zeitner worked the high side and Moore the lowside with Zeitner ultimately getting the top spot at the finish with a last lap pass. Not a seat was occupied as the crowd roared their approval.

Ocheyden, Iowa's Elijah Zevenbergen returned to Park Jefferson to once again prove his dominance in the J&J Fitting Stock Cars. Many of the Sioux City regulars challenged, but Zevenbergen came out on top after a torrid battle with ever improving Travis Barker. Chris Mills finished third after being relegated to the back with damage early in the night.

Todd Boulware of Jefferson continued to make Park Jefferson his personal bank by picking up the Schaeffer Oil Sport Mod feature. Boulware came from 12th place to beat AJ Boulware and Dan Vanbruggen, who enjoyed a podium finish.

John Cain topped the hobby stocks over Jake McClure and Chris DeMara and Luke Jackson beat Randy Cass and Don Tank to win the Pedersen Machine Sport Compacts.

Nine dollar nights returns this weekend to Park Jefferson as kids night highlights the nights program supported by our great partners at Fox 620. Adults will be $9, children and seniors $1. Gates open at 5 pm with hot laps at 6:30.
