USMTS and SLMR invade Park Jefferson Speedway Sunday June 23
Cookies BBQ Summer Shootout Night #2 sees the United State Modified Touring Series join with the SLMR for a huge night of racing in the Siouxland as two of the top touring series in the Midwest invade Park Jefferson, sponsored by Zeitner & Sons. A large field of cars in both divisions will bring top class racing to Park Jefferson. This event is a unique makeup event for both series as both nights were rained out earlier this year. Zeitner & Sons and their large trucking operation based out of Omaha are pleased to be back on board and bringing race fans this exciting event in 2019.
In the USMTS, this marks the 9th visit by the touring invaders to Park Jefferson Speedway. Rodney Sanders will lead the travelling circus into town as the Texas driver will bring his #20 to town holding a point advantage over both Dereck Ramirez as well as Missouri’s Hunter Marriott. A stout field has been following the series this year with past Park Jefferson winners Hunter Marriott and Ryan Gustin both picking up feature wins as Park Jefferson in years past.
In the SLMR series, Nick Deal sits atop the standings with four wins. It is the two series veterans sitting second and third in Bill Leighton and Kyle Berck who will be two to watch. Both Leighton and Berck have picked up wins at Park Jefferson. Berck was vitrtually unstoppable from 2014 thru 2017 until Leighton was able to take the checkers away. A strong field of the Malvern Bank SLMR will be on hand and should have fans excited for racing.
Joining the 2 feature divisions are the sport modifieds and hobby stocks running for $400 to win and sport compacts running for $125 to win. IMCA rules will apply in this non sanctioned event.
For the kids, Rusty Wheels and Broken Ball joint are gonna be doing a barking contest for the kids! What this means is any kid that wants to participate will come down to the frontstretch at intermission and the best 5 barking kids will get to do the trophy presentations to the 5 feature winners and will also get a trophy of their own! And the best part is the kids will get to bark at rusty wheels while he's in a dog costume! So kids get practicing barking and we'll see you Sunday night!
Fans are encourages to come out the previous night for a full night of the IMCA racing followed by the Sunday finale. The Hampton Inn of North Sioux City has a special Park Jefferson Speedway rate of $89 that can be made by calling 605-232-9739.
Camping is allowed on Saturday and Sunday nights at Park Jefferson on the north side of the spectator parking area.
With the Sunday racing, the Park Jefferson Speedway will open 1 hour early at Park Jefferson. The pit gate will open at 3:30 with spectator entrance opening at 4:00. Hot laps are slated for 5:15 and racing for 6:00. Fans will be allowed to put down blankets on Saturday night and will be left there for Sunday.
Adult tickets are $25, Seniors $20 and Children 6-16 are $12. There is a limited number of online special tickets which are $19 for adults, $17 for seniors and $5 for children.
