SCOTT GOODRICH WINS PENN CAN SPEEDWAY CRSA FEATURE
Susquehanna, PA…The cars and stars of the CRSA Tour came to Penn Can Speedway making their first of three appearances of the 2015 season. The twenty lap feature event was the third on the season schedule for the 305 sprint car group. Middletown, New York veteran Scott Goodrich overcame an adventurous night of racing competing against a strong field of sprints along with a brief encounter with the tow truck. Goodrich stayed focused all evening despite the difficulties.
Emily Vaninwegen and Goodrich brought the field to green. The start was called back on two occasions for cars spinning in turn two. Once the action got rolling, Goodrich moved past Vaninwegen to take the top spot. Caution came back out on lap five when opening night winner Jordan Thomas experienced mechanical problems and slowed going down the backstretch. The running order at that point of the race showed Goodrich leading followed by Dustin Purdy moving up from his ninth starting spot. Purdy was followed by Josh Pieniazek, John Matrafailo, and Geoff Quackenbush.
With Goodrich moving through lapped traffic, Purdy stayed close. Just past halfway, Goodrich’s lead evaporated when a spinning car in turn four brought out the caution. Goodrich still had Purdy glued to his bumper for the restart with Matrafailo, Pieniazek, and Brian Krummel chasing. The final caution flew on lap fifteen with cars coming together in turn four. The restart set up a five lap dash for the checkered flag. Goodrich and Purdy battled for the top position with Goodrich getting to the flag first. Purdy had a very strong run for second. Pieniazek, Mike Kizer, and Kummel rounded out the top five.
SPRINT NOTES: Twenty three sprinters signed in for the third event of the season. The CRSA Tour resumes this Wednesday for a midweek special at the Fonda Speedway in Fonda, New York. Scott Goodrich and Mike Kiser have three top five finishes in the first three tour races. After running two large ovals, some teams found the tight three eighths mile Penn Can oval very challenging. The E&H Services LLC. Southern Tier Challenge continued at Penn Can. This race marks the tenth year that the Penn Can Speedway has supported the CRSA Sprint Car Tour
