Scelzi Brothers Battle During Turkey Shootout With Dominic Scoring a Victory

Inside Line Promotions – VISALIA, Calif. (Nov. 16, 2014) – For the first time in more than a year and a half Dominic and Giovanni Scelzi were able to race each other during a nonwing micro sprint event last weekend at Plaza Park Raceway.

This time older brother came out on top. Dominic claimed the Turkey Shootout on Saturday night to cap the two-night event, which started out with some rough luck for the brothers on Friday.

Giovanni qualified third quickest and advanced from fourth to third place during his heat race, which locked him into the main event. Dominic, who was driving for Mike Martin, timed in 12th quickest during qualifying and he won his heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. That locked him into the main event as well.

“The track was extremely rough with huge ruts that caused numerous crashes,” Giovanni said. “It was hooked up and there were grooves about two feet deep. I hit one going into turn one and got upside down.”

Giovanni was running fifth approximately seven laps into the race when he flipped right in front of his brother.

“When he flipped I was right behind him,” Dominic said. “It was going to get pretty good between us, but it never got there.”

Dominic was also unable to finish the feature after he endured similar tough luck just after the midpoint of the race.

“I drove from eighth to third in the main event and hit a hole and couldn’t finish,” he said. “I was racing for the lead when I hit the hole.”

Dominic returned to the bullring for the finale on Saturday when he put together a dominant performance. He set quick time in qualifying and charged from fourth to second place during his heat race. That lined him up on the pole of the 40-lap feature.

“I led flag to flag,” he said. “It was like having fun with no pressure. It was a lot of fun.
It was a really good weekend. I can’t thank Mike Martin enough.”

The victory was Dominic’s first triumph of the season in his last race of 2014.
