Late Models Return To The Acres This Saturday
Eureka, CA (June 4, 2019) – It will be almost a full month this Saturday since the last time cars hit the pavement on the 3/8-mile Redwood Acres Raceway oval. That will change though with racing returning for RAR’s annual Pepsi Night. All six divisions will be in action including the late models who last race in the season opening event on April 27.
The Anderson Logging Bandoleros have yet to race an actual event in 2019 due to the car count. Aiden Kimberling leads the points and is likely hoping to see the division pick up more competitors this week and on through the rest of the year.
Rookie JR Brandt leads the Compass Community Credit Union roadrunner division standings. Tim Ratzlaff was the odds-on favorite for the division crown this season but he was unable to start the April 1 feature which put him in a points hole. In spite of that, he’s only 15 points behind Brandt. Austin Peterson is another rookie in the division and he’s third in the standings while veteran racer Troy Lee is fourth and Phil Jones another rookie is fifth.
The points for the Compass Community Credit Union mini stocks sees some surprises all throughout the standings. Rick Estes has returned to the form he had several years ago in the division and leads the points coming off a main event win on May 11. Jarrett Mayo is only seven points behind and won the April 27 race. Third place is a tie between Brian Murrell, Jr. and Gary Klientobe with Brett Murrell a point behind both of them in fifth.
There are only three points separating the first three drivers in the Four Star Realty bombers. Sam Brown holds the lead over Jim Redd by one point while Tyler Avelar holds down third. Mike Sullivan won the first race of the year and is fourth in points followed by Ryan Ahrens.
Chris Lawrence is the defending champion in the North Coast Lighting And Electric Legends and he’s got off to a strong start in 2019. Lawrence leads Katina Baker by 10 points. Third place Leonard Ward is four points behind Baker in third. James Nichols is fourth with MKinzy Uselton in fifth.
Race two for the Mid-City Motor World late models will be very pivotal as it will be a good gauge to see who the contenders and pretenders for this year’s championship will be. The season opening feature set a high bar for the year in terms of competition as the two points leaders David Miller and David Henderson staged a fantastic fight for the race win. Miller leads Henderson by one point. Of all the drivers in the top five, Dustin Walters is the least experienced. He’s hoping to open some eyes and put pressure on his more experienced competition and is third in the standings and only four points behind Miller. Mic Moulton was caught up in the lap one wreck in that first race but he’s still well in the fight as he’s fourth in points. Marty Walsh is always fast but has been plagued by bad luck and misfortune. His fortune could very well change Saturday night and boost him up from his current fifth place slot.
