May 16 Race At Redwood Acres Raceway Canceled

Due to the continuing COVID-19 coronavirus epidemic, Redwood Acres Raceway officials have announced the cancelation of the race that was scheduled for May 16. Sadly, this is the second time the 2020 RAR season opener has been canceled because of the worldwide epidemic. Initially, the season was scheduled to open this Saturday May 2. Raceway officials are continuing to work toward completing as much of the intended 2020 schedule as possible and are hoping that the season will begin on June 6 just as much as race fans, drivers and crew do.

The June 6 race will feature local racers in the Bandoleros, roadrunners, mini stocks, Legends and late models. In addition, the North State Modified Series will join the action for the only time in 2020. The NSMS has also dealt with modifications to the series schedule as their original season opening race at Madera Speedway on April 11 was canceled. A race at Shasta Speedway set for this Saturday May 2 has been postponed. They are hoping to begin their year May 23 at Lakeport Speedway before moving to RAR on June 6.

In some positive news, construction for the new state-of-the-art scoreboard began last weekend. The old lap counter in turn three was removed and a new steel structure was installed in its place. The scoreboard will be up and running in time for the new 2020 season opener on June 6. Redwood Acres Raceway would like to thank Don’s Rent-All, Eureka Ready Mix and O&M Industries for their help in making this project a reality.

In an effort to help race fans get through this stressful period, RAR has been hosting live viewings of classic races on Facebook. Tomorrow night (May 6) at 6:00 PM, a viewing of the Spears Southwest Tour Series visit to RAR from August 1, 2015 will be shown. You can view the race by going to www.facebook.com/RedwoodAcresRaceway2019/. Raceway officials will continue to update everyone about the 2020 season and any changes that may be made. Stay updated by going to Facebook or on Twitter @RacinTheAcres.
