5th Annual Sooner Showdown Slate Revealed

The tradition of the Sooner Showdown continues for the fifth annual running of the event on September 28th-30th. This year’s Sooner Showdown will feature high stakes racing in the Pure Stock, Super Stock, B-Mod, and Modified divisions. The Sharp Mini Late Models will also compete during the Saturday portion of the event.

Qualifying format
Pure Stocks, Super Stocks, and B-Mods will run two rounds of heat races. Drivers will draw for each round. The Top 8 drivers in combined heat race passing points are locked into the A-Main and will run a pole dash to determine their starting spot. The remaining cars (9th on back) will run a B-Main(s) to determine their starting spot in the A-Main. The Top 12 cars from the B-Main(s) will transfer to the A-Main.

Modifieds will run two rounds of heat races. Drivers will draw for each round. The Top 12 drivers in combined heat race passing points are locked into the A-Main and will run a bracket race pole dash to determine their starting spot (see procedures below). The remaining cars (13th on back) will run a B-Main(s) to determine their starting spot in the A-Main. The Top 12 cars from the B-Main(s) will transfer to the A-Main. The Modified A-Main will start three-wide.

Modified Bracket Race Procedures
Each of the races will have two cars and be two laps. The two lowest seeds, 11 and 12, will run a two-lap, two-car race to start the Pole Dash. The higher seed will receive lane choice, high or low, prior to the race. The winner of each race will face the next highest seeded driver in the next race. Once a driver loses a race they are eliminated, while the winner stays on the track. If a driver brings out a caution they will be eliminated. The driver who wins the last race will be the pole sitter. A driver’s position in the A-Main will be determined by where they finish in the pole dash.

Pure Stock Provisional Starter
The Pure Stock A-Main will start 21 cars, 20 of which qualify directly through heat races and B-Mains. Gordon’s Detail in Pryor has sponsored one provisional starting spot to be awarded. The provisional will be based on the final 2017 point standings and attendance during the points season. The highest driver in the 2017 point standings who competed in a minimum of 12 points races who fails to make the A-Main will be eligible for a provisional. If none of the eligible drivers need the provisional, the 13th car in the B-Main will be awarded the provisional. If there are multiple B-Mains, the first tiebreaker will be number of starts in the 2017 season. If drivers have equal starts, the second tiebreaker will be their position in the final 2017 point standings.
